How do you test it?

Take a very small piece of a peanut butter cookie and put it in your mouth for a while. If you get hives and throat swelling, you will know. Try not to swallow. I "accidentally" tested one about a year ago. Against my better judgement I started to eat a chocolate cookie with a big Hershey chocolate kiss in the center of it. Should be safe right? Who would put peanut butter in a chocolate cookie? The lady at the old folks home I was giving a presentation to would, that's who.

or dairy queen i'd bet. any ice cream shop that has nuts. what about grocery store?

I never ever "get the nuts" on any ice cream treat. If you ask them "what are the nuts", they usually don't know. And a lot of the time it is peanuts. NEVER get the nuts. It is like Russian roulette. Your taking a stupid big chance for nothing.. never get the nuts.

You are a brave man.

I was thinking the same thing. Another thing people cook with is peanut oil. Until 5 minutes and about 15 posts ago I never realized how deadly that little legume can be.

And I can tell you if a potato chip is cooked in peanut oil or not. Of course you can usually tell just by looking at them or breaking one (they are usually crisper). But the reaction from the peanut oil is very mild. At least in me. And no, one small bite of a cookie containing peanut butter is not going to kill me. I am going to know it within seconds. as the tingling and swelling starts. I am going to spit it out, and if I do swallow a little, yes it doesn't do me any good, as it continues down the throat, and even makes me sick at the stomach. Too much and I will definitely puke. The first thing I want is some cold water to wash out my mouth. It doesn't solve it, but it makes it a bit better. Time is what solves the problem, that and not ingesting any more after you detect the problem. The first incident when I was five, was the most severe, because of the amount I ate. There was a whole lot of crying and throwing up and trouble breathing too. A young child does not know what is happening to them and doesn't know what to do. But I have had the reaction many times and I know what to do. Plus of course my peanut allergy may not be as severe as some that have actually died.

The prevalence of peanut allergy in the United States is approximately 1% to 2%. The rate of peanut allergy is higher in individuals with additional allergic conditions or a family history of allergic conditions, including a sibling with peanut allergy.

I am in the "additional allergic conditions" group.

Almost all spiders are poisonous to some degree...some (and I don't mean the worst (widows, recluses' etc) create an open ulcer type of infliction that can last several weeks or even months...some just leave a tiny pin point mark that can be hard to see near the center of the inflammation...

The most curious part of the OP's ailment is the short duration...

I have got bit by a brown recluse spider and almost the same thing happen to me. I got bitten in my sleep and it felt like a wasp sting went back to sleep and forgot about it. I did not see/notice the bite (between by side pocket and back pocket) till after I got a rash all over from my ankles to my neck then I remembered about the sting in the middle of the night. My lips and eyes did not swell and the rash did not appear for 24 hours. Is it possible something bit you the day before and it went noticed but not recognized? Think back a few days not a few hours.

If the OP is using a cabbed tractor and he has a mouse problem, maybe he is allergic to rodents and what they leave behind. The symptoms are similar.

Good thought. I would seriously clean the inside of the tractor to see if there is anything in there, and that means opening up the ducts to the AC and going through the entire system.

The peanut is deadly poison to me. I have had that particular allergy since birth. Every few years I test it, and it hasn't gone away.

A life without Snickers would be tough. I don't know if I could do it.
