2019 ford ranger review....

I've read 2 possibilities, the 2022 will totally replace the 2019 the other plan is they may continue the current model Ranger but only a stripped down version for fleet/commercial use and the new model will be the main one for the public.

Are you talking about the new Maverick? It will be a smaller (than the Ranger) unibody truck.

It will be built with the Bronco SPORT which is a smaller vehicle than a Bronco.

Hmm, said the Maverick might get a manual transmission. I'd probably give it a second look.

I see it says that the production start-up will only be the 4 door version. The 2007 Ranger I had was a reg cab long box. Too bad the new ones don't offer that configuration.

It seems like a lot of us would like a small truck that really is a small truck. I was down at the Ford dealership this PM and they do indeed have several Rangers in stock... all XLTs for around 39K. For 41K I can buy an F150 which will get comparable fuel economy yet also pull a trailer with my Kubota, and do many other things which the smaller trucks won't do. If I wanted to spend that much on a pickup though, I would buy a 3/4 ton with snow plow that I also can put a dump body on.

I had hoped to get another year out of my '04 so that I could see what Toyota and GM have planned, and also see what the new small truck is which Ford has been teasing us with. But my Ranger needs too much work and money to justify it, especially with the frame getting soft.

Exactly, i don't have need of a big truck. My dream pickup would be a 1/2 ton 4wd, two door with a long bed, maybe a little room behind the seats. Something i can run into town to the lumber or hardware store, maybe throw a few bails of alfalfa. Oh and 0-60 in 2.5 seconds 45MPG or highter, trouble free for at least 300K miles. :)

We test drove the 150 and didn't like its longer length or wider stance. It was like driving a full sized lake freighter around town...... Most of our trips don't need all that extra size, above the Rangers. Do like that "little" truck.

If that's what you want. One of the selling points of the Ranger for me is the price... when they add all sorts of junk and bring it into the price range of other vehicles which get the same or better fuel economy, they've eliminated some of the appeal to me.

I found a nice looking 2003 Toyota SR5 with only 85k miles. It came from Florida, so doesn't have the rust which destroys vehicles up here... including the Ranger I'm trying to replace. Kelly Book Value is 8500-11000. I finally got a price from them this AM... 22 thousand dollars.

I went to my local Ford dealer this PM, they may be able to get a new Ranger to my specs for 9K more.

I don't believe that Tacoma went for 22k when it came off the lot 18 years ago.

In my humble opinion, anyone giving 22K for a 17 yr old Toyota pick up with 85,000 miles should have their brain matter examined.

I couldn't agree more. I might have considered paying half that.

Maybe that SR5 had gold paint or diamond lugnuts? :D

I would go with the Ranger in a heartbeat at those numbers.

I think the OP said $22k was the price new, and that the current price was ~8-11k. Even at that price I wonder what someone is smoking...they weren't very good trucks, IMHO.

My next door neighbor would love it, even at that price

But then he also loves Hillary

That was about what the list price was when new, but it's also what he's asking for it now. Some people think that old=valuable, (when they are the sellers) but that truck isn't even old enough to be a classic. $11,000 is the high KBB value for that truck now.
In a lot of ways they weren't much of a truck. They ride like an 8N Ford, don't have a lot of space, and unless you had the 4 cylinder manual transmission they didn't get much better mileage than a full sized pickup. Yet they're tough as nails, and like my Ranger are small and light so will go a lot of places that a full sized pickup-or a 2020 Ranger- won't go. I would rather have bought a clean older truck than a new one yet they aren't out there. I will probably spend more time walking for the next few years until the "new" wears off.

We do use da ranger for a bit of towing. In fact, when we seen the HP it had, this was one of the reasons we got the 2019 version. While towing the boss on the utility trailer we got around 15+ MPG doing hills at 60 mph which I thought was quite good. Obviously with the camper we get less. Towing these trailers, the little engine has got plenty of power. We are very happy with the extra for them hills. In general as a towing machine, we are quite happy with this little truck.

Found something I didn't appreciate on our 2019 ranger. As seen the photos in the my last post, we pull trailers with ours and had some wiring grief on our flat-bed utility trailer. Of course I needed power to test and work on the wiring, so I attached it to our ranger. It took me some time before I realized it won't allow power back there unless its on the tow ball. Then you have to keep it on or if its was turned off, I'd have recycle it back to through "trailer is attached" mode again. What a pain in the !&%#!! So I eventually got tired of that and attached our dated Honda to work on it.
