Single tire 10k axles are getting popular. My PJ has them, but not Deck Over. Diamond C shows them on their web site with the deck over, 3x7k, 2x8k or 2x10k.

DOD Deck-Over Dump Trailer - Diamond C Trailers

As they are getting popular with big OTR trucks, too.
All my trucker buddies are telling me 2 things about super singles:
1. They are purely a cost cutting measure (1 less wheel per axle, less weight)
2. They don?t like them because if there?s a blowout, there?s major loss of control. One of my friends drives a tractor trailer tanker and one of his co workers lost a rear super single drive axle tire and the truck nearly flipped over.

I would worry about trailer stacked high with hay losing a super single. Might lean over. Duals provide a margin of safety

Yes, and if we were discussing a big truck I would agree, they are also hard to find when you need them in small town BFE.

Back to your deck over dump, I think you already discounted duals due to interference with the fold down sides. The only 96" deck over dually dumps I have seen were all solid sides. I would imagine you could order such if you wanted them bad enough, as in $$.

When I was logging I used my dually truck and tandem dually trailer, good stuff. However, I don't haul over 26k anymore so SRW truck and trailer works for me. I did buy a 22k gvw PJ dump but that was for off highway capability/dependability, not load carrying.

Keep us posted on what you settle for.

Those super singles are expensive. Like probably twice as high as a regular tire. Aside from the blowout/flat part if you cut a tire you’ve ruined a lot more expensive tire. Now on a lighter trailer I think it would be quite a bit cheaper to buy 4 17” or 19,5s whatever they are vs 8 16” tires.

I think it’s going to be a Load Trail with 8k axles. Im still tempted to try a triple axle. I think I can be careful enough to preserve the front axle.
Would like to talk to Load Trail dealer about the 8k axles they offer. Maybe then I could do a double axle instead of a triple axle, but Id really like a 20-22k GVWR trailer. I think I’d have a 6-7 ton payload. With a deck on the neck, I could carry 12 4x5 round bales or a nice heavy load of 3/4” gravel and some smaller loads of fertilizer lose or bagged pallets. I think the triple 8k axles are going to be crazy expensive though.
Load Trail rates their trailers by axle weight only. They won’t add more for tongue weight. 12 4x5s will weigh 10,000lbs or 5 ton, so I need to watch payload. Plan down the road for a skid steer or toolcat. With attachments, they could weigh 8000lbs.
Dont know if Load Trail deck on the neck interferes with optional telescoping hoist. Also have to see if/what up charge there is for telescoping hoist.
Local dealer has 96 inch x 16 foot with 2) 7k axles and scissor hoist for $12500, so I will be well north of that.
Trailer prices have climbed considerably in the last few years. 3 years ago that $12500 trailer was probably $9999.

Lots to analyze. Nothing in stock. Love the Diamond C. I bet 20 grand though

Yes, Diamond C is stupid expensive on their dumps, flatbeds are more competitive for some reason. I think you will like Load Trail, I have a 7'x24'x14k gooseneck equipment trailer and had a 7x16x2x14k gooseneck dump, no big issues at all. Just some small stuff that they all have. You might ask about 10k axles, they are cheaper than most 8-9k, they, (8-9k) seem to be the redheaded step child of axles. $12,500 seems high....here is a PJ to compare with, same specs @ $9,200. Some dealers are just high priced.

Have you checked with Fayette Trailers in PA? They have 3 stores but no Deck Overs in stock. They sell PJ, Diamond C and FoxTrail. I know it is crazy but that is where I ordered my New PJ dump, they were very reasonable compared to local dealers around here. I bought in on a ship direct from the Texas Factory so my warrantee is kinda nil. I had a hot shot trucker deliver it 1100 miles @ $1.50 per loaded mile.

Sure, I’d consider a PJ. First thing that I notice is that the PJ has 7k axles and the load trail has 8k axles. 8k axles are a heck of a lot more expensive. I was told $1000-$1500 more each! I don’t think 2) 7ks are enough for what I want to do.
I will contact Fayette. I have only talked to Best Choice so far. They move a LOT of trailers.

Okay, I keyed in on this.

But yes, 8k are expensive. If you go to parts from a large dealer you will see the 10k are usually cheaper than the 8k. They probably make the 10k by the train load and the 8k intermittent as there is not much call for them. (3) 8k axles would be awesome tho and probably hold up well in a tight turn, they are tough. I have seen a lot of 3 axle 7k's get bent, usually the front one.

My mistake-good catch.
The load trail had 2) 8ks.
Same dealer had a Load Trail 2019 left over with 3) 8k axles for like 10,900. That was a heck of a deal.
I have to keep my eyes open and listen to suggestions
Thanks to you all for the information
Keep it coming

How much more are 10k axels? In my experience the 10k axels have twice the brakes vs a 7k and the 10ks are usually oil bath which I much prefer.

Not sure, but you’d have to find tires with 5k load capacity and ability for sides to fold down
10k axles with duals have bigger brakes and more tire surface area to assist with raking traction
