Building an 8遅16 gooseneck dump trailer

Not sure, but you’d have to find tires with 5k load capacity and ability for sides to fold down
10k axles with duals have bigger brakes and more tire surface area to assist with raking traction

Why would have half to have 5k tires I thought you were against the super singles? But that is do able. I’d WAY rather have double 10s vs triple 7s super singles or not. . 17.5 in. Wheels and Tires | PJ Trailers

How much more are 10k axels? In my experience the 10k axels have twice the brakes vs a 7k and the 10ks are usually oil bath which I much prefer.

This is a good place to buy axles and parts, Trailer Parts Unlimited. Note the 10k comes with springs. It is about $400 cheaper than a dealer.

7k axle.

8k axle.

10k axle.

Dexter 1K Electric Brake Trailer Axles

The 8-9 and 10k general duty axles all come with 12.25"x3.375" brakes, the 7k has 12"x2", the 10k HD uses 12.25"x4" All, including the 7k can be had with oil bath hubs. The 235/75x17.5 18 ply super single tire is rated for 6k lbs, so more than enough for 10k axles, they even put them on 12k axles.

I thought you were referring to 10k axles with singles hence the 5k single tires.
Id probably be ok with 5k single tires as long as the bed was still 96? and the sides fold down.
Would still be a little concerned about a blowout and bales stacked at double height.

Agree on the triple axles, especially triple 7s. Might do triple 8s.
Still looking and researching.

Re: Building an 8 to 16 foot gooseneck dump trailer

Got the RAM and gooseneck equipment and hay trailer pretty much done
Next, looking to build a 8x16 gooseneck dump trailer to replace my dump truck. GVWR range desired is 16k to 21k which means 2) 8k axles or 3) 7k axles with single tires. I have not seen, or expect to see 10k dual axles with fold down sides.
Looking at brands, specs, features, etc.
Must have 16 inch to 21 inch fold down sides. Like the load capacity of the triple 7k axles, but have read the issues related to stress on front axle. Since I will be the only operator of the trailer, Im confident I can be careful enough. 2) 8k axles should be enough for my required load capacity, but they actually cost more than a triple 7k axle trailer, which also obviously offers more load capacity.

Primary cargo Goals: carry everything from stone to topsoil, pallets of fertilizer or bulk fertilizer. Another very important cargo goal is 4x5 round bales. An 8 foot b 16 or 18 foot should carry 10 round bales stacked.

Anyone have an 8 wide deck over dump they would recommend?
Looking at Sure Trac, Iron Bull and Lamar.

I have access to a SureTrac 8x16 gooseneck 14k dump with fold down sides. The higher dump angle makes it good for unloading without spreading the pile farther out. The drop down sides make loading pallets of feed, etc. easy. But, you cant forget there is always a post for the tailgate. It is not uncommon to see that trailer with 10 4x5 round bales, manure heaped on or 3 full cords of firewood on it (4 sheets of plywood make the sides taller and disappear when unloaded). This trailer has been abused and left wet more than once. One axle had to be replaced because of the repeated overloading and the 12k jacks have stripped the gearing more than once. The rest, still solid.

I would consider The maxxd trailers up with Diamond C in the elite class of trailers...very nice, and very expensive.
Sure Trac is a nice trailer, and more affordable.

I just may go ahead with the Load Trail GZ21 with a few options. 3 8k oil baths and 8’ ramps.
Now I have to get a few dealer bids.

Re: Building an 8 to 16 foot gooseneck dump trailer

I wouldn稚 run a 3 axle trailer if it was free. If I found a suitable candidate for a single axle 20,000 pound I壇 run that. My tandem axle scrubs bad enough.

DITTO !!!!

Just try to realize, I haven’t found a double axle trailer that has the payload of a triple axle with fold down sides!!!
I need 7 tons of payload at a minimum.
Find me a double axle with fold down sides and 7 ton payload or more and I would definitely consider it!
I also think an 8k axle on the front of a triple would be more durable than a 7k.

Did you ever check this one out? I posted it about 10 days ago. It can be had with (3) 7k's, (2) 8k's or (2) 10k's. Probably spendy...

DOD Deck Over Dump Trailer - Diamond C Trailers

Yes, in fact I almost bought a Diamond C instead of my Kaufman a few weeks ago. The problem with Diamond C is they are no doubt a beautiful trailer, but the 20% dealer markup puts them out of my price range.
They offer a 24k triple axle, so I don’t think they offer anything double axle over 20k GVWR with fold down sides.
In other words, I don’t think they can do anything different than Load Trail or Suretrac which are thousands cheaper
