Glad to see your properties survived the fires, Aquamoose. Some other people in our area were not nearly as fortunate,

I know, especially Malden which is devastating when 80% is gone! You must be quite close in that area. How are you doing?

Glad you could get the hoe off in such good time and that you didn't need your cart.
Any thought of adding a hitch or reciever to your hoe so you wouldn't have to remove it?

I rarely use the hoe but considering that I recently discovered that I can drop my backhoe quickly, I just have to be more prepared and avoid the backhoe in hot & dry times. During burning or logging, I stage it at a convenient location. Besides, with 550 gallons, the rig easily weighs more than 5,000 lbs and I pull it over rough grounds sometimes.

I'm glad the firefighters took care of it before it got out of control.

That's a nice fire rig you have there Aquamoose.

Thanks! I want to add a live booster hose and some brackets to hold ground tools. One day at a time.

A couple of houses burned down in our town of Colfax, and it is an absolute wonder more didn't as the fire spread through the residential area. A friend of mine had the fire burn right up to the foundation of their home. We were a couple miles away from the closest blaze, thankfully. The west coast is burning up! We have caught whatever Australia had last year!

I am so glad that I am able to keep my acreage mowed. That is one of the best insurances against wildfires. That, and don't have trees next to your house, particularly evergreen trees.

Was going to go out and do some clearing with the tractor today, but decided it is a good day to stay in the house. A cloudless sky, but you can't see the sun for the smoke from the fires all over the west coast. Visibility of maybe a half mile. The sky is an eerie orange. Strange times!

I don't blame you at all! My heart goes out to everyone dealing with the fires.

Thought I would share a tip. From my days of flying airplanes, I got in the habit of doing a walk around every time I get on or off the tractor.

Today I am getting ready to mow with the flail mower and needed to grease everything first. The PTO shaft is easer to grease if you take off one side at a time and rest on the mower or lift arms. Well this morning I forgot to hook back up the PTO to the tractor and it was just resting on the lift arm. Had I just jumped in a pulled away I likely would have damaged my shaft. During my walk around, I noticed it and corrected the problem before damage was done.

Take the time to do a walk around and quick check of everything each time you mount and dismount your machine. It could save you from making a mistake.

Absolutely right. A pre-use inspection is a great habit.
