Down the county road there is a small stone homestead house. All that remains are parts of the walls. Single room and built of native stone. It's just a couple hundred feet off the county road. So I see it every time I go into town.

JMHO - local stone was used because it was available and cost nothing. I often wondered if there was any type of insulation on the inside. A solid stone house is going to be awful cold for a whole lot of the year. Late summer/early fall - it could be like an oven.

We are lucky here in that we have lots of original stone farm houses from the 1700's.
My Wife grew up in one on the Delaware river. Lots of maintenance though ($$$$).

My Dad was born in an old home built during territorial days...he said the walls were filled with dirt! And...it was anything but warm.

Last time I slept in my FIL stone house during winter almost froze to death, but was always cool in the summer.

Here are some birds in Florida - near Tampa. They grow birds pretty big in Florida.

Those are really nice pictures. I知 guessing Devil痴 Den must be in the Arkansas Ozarks region? Really fantastic county in the Ozarks.

Yep, west of the Ozark National Forest.

Some shots from last Saturday at Pymatuning, PA.

The sunset looked awesome reflecting off the cracked ice on the lake.

No hands? No problem!
I caught this little black-capped chickadee picking at these red berries.

I feel like I could turn this shot of the geese into a Christmas card.

Tried my hand at a little minimalist photography too.

I thought this tree looked neat against the back of the dam, with the stone wall dividing the shot in half.

Interesting as to how geese always play 'follow the leader'.
We often see them fly by in flocks of 50-100 or so swapping leaders every so often.
Occasionally they take an overnight rest stop on my lake and what a noise when the signal comes to depart.
Just like kids all excited!

Funny bit of trivia...

When geese fly in a V, do you know why the one side of the V is longer than the other?

There's more geese on that side.

Why geese fly in a "V".

They often form a V when paddling by my shoreline prior to the goslings hatching as well. Once the little ones show up they are in a family group instead of a flock group and somewhat in a V but there is always one eye to the sky watching out for eagles.

The really strange "action" I've seen geese do. When fairly high up and obviously coming in for a landing on my lake. One or two out of the flock will do a complete barrel roll and then plop down on the water. I think they must be the "hot rods" or "show offs" of the flock.

^^^ you pribably have said and I do not recall, but what feeds your lake? Stream? Spring? Ground water level?
