is Derlin special? i saw that it was expensive, not sure what makes is special,, is it slick?

Delrin is a trademark brand of DuPont plastics. It's their formula of lubricated POM plastic material.

Most plastic gears in the automotive realm are Delrin 500P, 500L, or a variation of those.

Is it expensive, not really. There are competing formulas made by other plastic manufactures that perform nearly as well. We pick the brand Delrin because it's the best of the best for comparisons.

3D printing materials have the oil based resin that is lubricated, so the material does behave like a Delrin overall.

My company has placed 3D printed parts into custom production products vs. stock catalog. This provides the end-user with more value to fit their applications.

which 3d print filament has a oil based resin?

Delrin is an acetal type plastic. It is slick. It is an "engineering plastic", as is nylon, which is generically known as a polyamide plastic. Though similar in strength acetal plastics don't absorb very much water as polyamide plastics do. Delrin is a monopolymer, which means it is composed of a single polymer. A similar plastic to Delrin is Acetron. It is a copolymer plastic. It is composed of two types of acetal plastics. It is more common that Delrin. Nylons can be better than Delirin and Delrin can sometimes be better for a specific application. If the part will be exposed to water or high humidity and then later to dry conditions and then wet conditions again nylons will be a poor choice if fits are considered. This is because nylons absorb water. This water absorption will make holes smaller and larger. Acetal type plastics do not absorb as near as much water so dimension changes are usually inconsequential. The gist of this posting is that if you do get a part 3D printed don't ask for nylon.

Eric, I would agree with 3D printed nylon. It's basic PA6. Now, the nylons least affected by water is PA66 aka nylon 6/6. There isn't a known material for 3D printing like a PA66 - - - yet that I'm aware of.

I don't know how well nylons in general made for 3D printing work in the environments that are typical for tractors. I do know that I have had trouble with the nylon filaments I have used for 3D printing. They absorbed a lot of water fairly fast. I had to bake filament for about 12 hours in order for it to print without porosity. This was new filament that had been stored a couple weeks with a rip in the bag. I made the rip. But I have also bought filament in sealed bags that would not print without porosity until I baked it. Poor quality handling from the supplier is my guess. Acetal plastics do not suffer from this problem. I do not know if acetal plastics can be used in 3D printers.

I sure do like my Metal Ym2000. Call me old but I Never cared much for plastics. Looking at the new Yanmars and that's the only thing I don't care for. To much plastic!! GF's 2014 camry just took a beating. Didn't take much to take out the front of it. I was amazed how it was made and broke up. But the replacement parts seemed cheap$.

You could probably fabricate your own from a block of Delrin pretty easily with the dimensions and a good sized drill press and drills. But unless you have the right sized piece of Delrin lying around, it is probably going to cost you more than Hoye's charging for that piece. Delrin isn't a particularly cheap plastic. (Check out eBay for some prices; I can't tell how big this part is, but somewhere between $5 and $35 in Delrin (plus shipping!) would be my guess.)

If it were me, I would just buy the part from Hoye's. Shipping is a service, and I am very happy not to drive the hour/three hours to pick up some small parts, and let UPS / FedEx / USPS deliver it to me for less money than I would spend on gas, not to mention the hassle of actually getting my hands on the parts. (Between getting the attention of the parts clerk, or finding which aisle it is in this store, and actually find the the part on the shelf, it isn't a great use of my time.)

All the best,

Peter

There are plastic parts on our YM Series machines.

The fascia for the headlamps, the dash, the circled model ID on the front hood sides, the cover cap of the steering wheel center, the overflow bottle, and some models with the front grill cover.

Steering wheel And the Tire Cracking came up when I bought it. A couple axel wheel seals been about it. No doubt this was a true rice patty tractor. Still Org. Front ligts and rear lamp all work as they should. Just no Blinkers, Horns still good though. So pitiful it's comical. They showed wear Yrs. ago.
