Self driving cars will get their drivers killed

Self driving cars don’t kill drivers, drivers do. O wait a minute didn’t I hear something like that about guns.

In this situation, if I was driving a Tesla and a school bus full of children pulled out in front of me. I had the self-driving enabled, I would hope that I was paying enough attention to simply do exactly what you did. The car would have let go of 'its' control over to me to get out of the situation.
One thing about the Tesla... it has the "giddy up" to perform that manuever. You just need to be paying attention... and have reflexes like I had about 40 years ago. ;)

I know a guy who owns one, he let me drive it. I also liked the see through roof, but one can't help but wonder what if you get a crack in it.

I won't lie, it is a nice car.

I see way to many downsides to owning one myself, let alone I'm a used car guy for pricing.

One also can't help but wonder what "jumping on the gas" does with an electric car.

He told me his Tesla was around 3 seconds in the 0-60

I think self driving cars might have a place under special circumstances. But I think the biggest obstacle for them to overcome is the liability issue, and insurance companies are going to play a big factor there.

I will move forward and use new technology. But, in the back of my mind, I am slightly uneasy about the fact that the direct connections to my throttle, brakes, and steering don't exist, or are influenced by computer control. Could a failure in the lane keeping/steering function be able to override my strength? Even now, I have had two Subarus with lane keeping. The older one was fine. The newer one is more precise and keeps the car in the exact center, so you feel like you are fighting the wheel all the time. I turn that feature off on the new one.

Is there a setting on the Tesla so that it will move over to the outside lane after passing a vehicle?

Yes, you can use these things called turn signal and steering wheel, that what i used anyway. My sister says when she passes someone, she can put her turn signal on and it will wait till the lane clears and move you over, if i understood her correctly.

So it takes a supercharged and juiced redeye to beat a plaid? I wouldn't say he got destroyed, either. Redeye got him off the line, but as said in the video, the plaid wasn't ready or used to the light. But if you look at the video, plaid looks to be either maintaining or closing the distance. I think if the start's were the same, it would have been much closer.

You have to remember that with EV's, there's no torque curve, it's all of it, all the time, period. And I would wager that the redeye will not last as long, especially doing runs on the strip. There's about a billion moving parts on it. On the plaid, there are 4, one motor for each wheel. The redeye must run race fuel, has to purge nitrus tanks and refill, oil changes, coolant changes, all that fun ****. The plaid you just need to plug it in. They are amazingly simple in terms of maintenance.

Mechanically, EV's are superior, there's no doubt. The battery tech is questionable. But there's already an EV thread. This is focusing on the autodriver aspect.
