So I’m finally back life happens and I had to learn to rebuild our Polaris ranger front diff and axles. It services our small ranch and took priority.

To the tractor my thought was to test my gauge to known good diesel (only one we have is a kubota bx1800) got it disassembled to learn my deluxe tester kit doesn’t have the correct adapter for it… lovely

So tried to rent one. Only gas ones available anywhere I checked oriley autozone etc etc

So I went ahead and purchased a second one with the intent of keeping if necessary and returning for other tools if not.

Tested compression side by side gauges measured within 5 lbs pressure of one another…

No surprise. Shops would go out of business if they had to double purchase every test instrument.

To screening & checking engine oil

bought paint screens and cut apart old filter with pipe cutter
Oil and filter were very dirty but nothing out of ordinary in catch pan oil filter or paint screen… found a few chunks of orange paint type material in screen was the most significant…

Agreed but it was mentioned multiple times so I thought worth a try

The low compression, blow by and the sound of the way it cranks would be enough for me. After all the years working on engines I can tell low compression by the sound of the way it cranks.

Here’s a vid for visual and sound of engine cranking condition, battery etc this is no bat charger on glow plugs in and disabled & no fuel. More cranking in following videos below

Opinions of experts please. Sounds fair to me what cranking

IMO we might could have sorted this out by now while OP is doing everything right so far. I also suggest that further tests of fuel delivery may bear out before shotgunning a new pump/parts and bucks if not needed.

btw, I'll be here 'til we get our guy up and running. Ask me later why I'm so fired up to do so. :)

Too much blow by and very little resistance to cranking per compression stroke. Likely they started it with either until it wouldn’t start anymore. Time for disassembly.

Injector and pump “pop” test in progress tonight

Also anyone know for sure I can drop oil pan ? Looks to be a crossmember and possible front driveshaft in the way.. last picture attached …

Pop test vid looks like 1 good 1 fair and 1 bad injector but pump looks to be working to my eye. What do the pros think?

What is next on the to do list everyone?? Besides spray some air freshener and get beard balm on, all I smell is diesel #2 lol

Swap the one that’s NOT PUMPING to a different line..
THATS to rule out a bad cyl in the pump..
(y) Are these type injectors rebuildable or cheaper just to get new?

Something else I was thinking about. I’m used to doing compression tests by removing the injectors, not the glow plugs. If you do a compression test using the glow plug holes, can the injectors leak enough to throw off your test?

That’s almost funny. If the injectors leaked back how would they handle the explosion?
The surface area of the nozzle is so small it can’t push back. The blow by tells the story. So much guessing on here the guy is just chasing his tail until the main thing is corrected.
