Let me divert it again. I once had tour of a mushroom farm--a multi-story, multi thousand sq. ft. windowless building in which pallet-sized beds of mushrooms in manure-rich media were stacked on pallet racks in the dark. After harvesting the mushrooms, the expended soil was deposited in a heap from which the locals could and did help themselves. The farm manager stated that the efficiency specialists concocted the media so that the growing mushrooms extracted all the nutrients leaving none in the compost. The only benefit to the locals was that the compost might improve the friability of their soils but added no nutrients (although Eric_Phillips indicates his compost was well-consolidated); the benefit to the farm was reduced disposal costs and the neighbor's good will.

Towing an expensive boat like that with flip flops on? Indicative of how prepared/detailed he was.
Steel toed boots probably wouldn't increase his intelligence

As per MythBusters Episode 184: Driving in Heels driving in high heels is as safe & fast when racing as normal shoes. I can't see flip flops being any less safe than high heels.
That article also mentioned snow boots...not sure I'd want to have to react quickly while wearing them...kind of bulky and likely to catch. Even plowing snow with the tractor the boots kind of get in the way. Never tried it in high heels. :ROFLMAO:

I always drive barefoot, nephropathy pain in the feet makes wearing shoes unbelievably painful. So bad I cannot even stand to wear socks, so the shoe (whatever it maybe) is kicked off under the seat until I need to get out.
Urban legend; barefoot driving isn't illegal in any state of USA.
I was once told by a state trooper that it was illegal. Whether it was or not, I don't know, this was 50-odd years ago and I was a teenager. He could very well have been BS'ing me.
I go barefoot as much as possible. No medical reason, just don't like wearing shoes. The skin on the bottom of my feet is probably thicker than the soles on many shoes after all these years. :ROFLMAO: :p

Police often don't know the law, or decide that they know better. Perhaps 50-odd years ago it was illegal - wouldn't surprise me as 50-odd years ago mots people who wore flip-flops/sandals when not at the poolside were counterculture and there were probably lots of laws aimed at them.

@oak - do your feet ever crack from being barefoot a lot? it's very dry in these parts and I have problems with that. Would help if I didn't pick at them too probably...

I was told the same thing by a local town officer, but I doubt they could find a statute.

Occasionally, more often in the winter than summer. Usually around my big/2nd toes or sometimes around the ball of my foot. Some Vaseline softens/heals them pretty fast.

I've found using a palm sander works wonders - 80 grit. The palm sander has no effect on soft skin but readily reduces calluses; if there's a painful crack pretty much the only way I've found to deal with it is to reduce the callus around it because the flexing on either side of it will keep the crack going otherwise and by getting everything soft again it can heal.

It shouldn't need to be said but
Don't use a belt sander.

(I used to use a belt sander and it was super effective but unfortunately you do have to be very careful because it doesn't care if the skin is hard or soft)

I'll have to get some vaseline and give that a try; other lotions haven't seemed to help me much.

Driving with flip flops with a manual transmission should be allowable double jeopardy.

I use a dremel tool with the small drumb sanding attachment.
Takes the dry hard stuff off quickly and easy to handle and get into small areas.
Mine has a variable speed so you don't go too deep too fast.
Have to do it outside or somewhere you don't care about the dust.
First coat is Polysporin and then vasaline.

I retired in 2005, even though I was a crane operator and didn't work very hard I had calluses on my heels. For the next 12 years dried skin would peel off of my calluses. Worst part was when in the winter dry air they would crack. Very painful.

I tried some OTC medicines that didn't work. I happened to mention this to my neighbor and he brought me a sample of this cream called No Crack. I used it and in 1 or 2 days it was all healed. I've used it every winter for years.

My heels no longer crack, but once in a while I get a bad crack in my finger tip and use No Crack, which works wonders.

Edit: On my heel I would put it on a large square Band-aid. Also I bought my bottle online, but can't remember where.

For badly callused heels, I use these, with a battery powered drill. Work great, as long as the skin is real dry and you move around before you burn yourself.

Likely, but not certain death.

Here in the SF Bay region a trucker outran a river of burning gasoline when he crashed in a tunnel, years ago.
On TV I've seen firefighters outrun an explosion, keeping just in front of the fireball. They must just ride the shockwave. :ROFLMAO:

It’s hilarious when in a movie the “hero” outruns the blast from an explosion. Thats somewhere between 5000’ and 25000’ per second.

Must be wearing the right shoes.
