Great lake boats, a good video

Looking out my living room window I see the Rt Hon Paul J Martin of CSL is finally out of dry dock in Port Weller.
She spent the winter having work done.
It's kind of cool seeing ships being pulled out as they block the canal at a right angle to normal travel.
Somehow the ship looks even bigger in that position.
I don't know if it will be moored at the dock for further work or if it's all finished.

Here's kind of a neat view of the lock and shipyard from google earth screenshot this morning. No idea what ship is in the lock. Looks like a tug in the drydock. No idea of the date.

Obviously a summer shot. The ship is coming out of Lock 1 and by colour looks like a CSLs vessel.
Could even be the Right Honourable...
I'm located south if this picture were to be extended.
They must be working on the self un/loading equipment as on of the booms is out over the docks this afternoon.

How did they get the ingredients to the steel mills back in WWII ?
The same way! The even kept the locks open year-around and I read that ice was troublesome. The mills stockpile pellets for the winter season.

This is photos taken onboard the James R. Barker. I had the incredible opportunity to step aboard the 1,004-foot Interlake Steamship Company vessel while it was docked in Two Harbors, loading iron ore pellets. Being able to explore the ship up close, especially during active loading operations, was such a unique experience. Can’t wait to share more from this visit. There’s a lot to see from behind the scenes of these massive Great Lakes freighters.

Here is a FB post from the owner of Peterson's just posted. They are the local fish-market we buy fish from. Thought you might find it interesting. I added a photos of one of their boats tied up.

Peterson's Fish Market

Good afternoon on this sun filled day. People always feel better when the sun is out. More so for us yoopers as we don't see the sun all winter. I read that there will be an Easter egg hunt in Hancock on the Quincy Green (old highschool). Have your kiddies bring a basket or container to fill with those eggs. Fun, fun, fun! I was busy this morning. Did all my exercises, washed our bedding and cleaned the house. Now it's off to the bank and post office for our mail. Capt. Chris and crew are back out on the big lake setting nets today. Lift tomorrow. Still getting plenty of fish. I heard from. A reliable source said that beef is going to be climbing higher and higher. We use ground turkey for some of our beef recipes so we will get thru it. Looks like we will be eating more fish and chicken. I remember hubby telling me stories about when he was young and they were so poor that fish was all they had to eat. He said he got so sick of it but they did not starve. He still likes fish but not as much as me. When our restaurant is open I eat fish almost every day. Well friends and family I have to get moving. Have a great day and be kind. Pat

Wishing everyone a happy Easter. Our weekly banner change is this view of the Boland unloading coal at Munising MI yesterday. Credit Gus Schauer for making the drive to the Upper Peninsula to capture this uncommon visit.

Floating bath tubs!

I grew up east of Rochester NY, and about 5 miles from Lake Ontario. The lake is wide enough there that one can't see the other side, so more like the ocean than a lake.

We would watch the Lakers heading back and forth to the St. Lawrence, but they were out far enough to only make out silhouettes, and not the details.

This thread has some outstanding photography that shows what we were missing...
