The ones shown on Multicar's website seem to be more like Unimogs than anything even remotely basic. And with prices to match.

I think this is a classic case of mission creep. The original model was a stand up powered cart-truck, with a 6 hp diesel. Through various evolutions, they added stuff like a cab, seat, heat, more power, and it's kinda morphed into a specialist municipal vehicle.
