Yeapers! Thx, had it in my cart before I called before ordering it, $1399 isn't bad though.

Ordered April 10, got email confirmation soon after. On April 11, got a mail changing the shipping time from 15-18 days to 4-5 weeks. Got an email on May 20 that it had been shipped. later that day I got a call from Fed Ex Freight scheduling shipping for next week. Maybe I'll get to try it out soon.

My sincere apologies for sharing bad information. I started filling out the order form but stopped before payment. They did send me an email to remind me of this purchase.

...

Did others get an acknowledgement from MechMaxx and an order number when they ordered?

I placed an order last week and got an order # right away. Last night (Fri), I got a shipping confirmation on the Flail Mower I ordered, but it doesn't seem to include the Stump Grinder, though there is a note that multiple items may ship separately.

Edit - Regarding the site w/ the $990 price for the SG24, I'm not saying it is or isn't legit, but that domain was just registered 2 weeks ago - https://www.godaddy.com/whois/results.aspx?domain=mechmaxusa.com (by a company out of Lithuania, it seems...)

I checked the link, and to be honest, nothing seemed odd except the price. I'm usually pretty tuned in to potential scams, but this one may have gotten me if I were in the market for a grinder.

Bummer about the scam site. Always stay vigilant when shopping online!

I ground about, oh, 20 stumps this long mem day weekend. Unit performed like a champ.

I had some black walnut stumps in my woods from when I got them logged for veneer way back in 2012. They were still hard as heck!

Then I felled several smaller living trees and gosh, the fresh wood is SO much easier to get ground up quickly.

I probably got way too complacent because I ended up just staying in medium range and pulling the grinder through the stumps rather quickly - I now think a gear tractor would do just fine with these units. You might be on the clutch a lot, but you can pull through a cut at 1-2mph no problem - Just need to manage the depth of your cut appropriately.

I did stall the tractor once with an accidental big bite. That sucked, but everything seems fine. Guess my slip clutch was not set right after all, will back the bolts off a couple turns.

But anyway, done with this machine for now. Feel like I got my money's worth already, and it's barely broken in! I hadn't turned my shipping crate into a dolly yet or anything like that, so I realized it's still a very handy way to store the grinder when not in use, easy to move around with my pallet forks.

I ordered one today. $1400 seems like a bargain to me so rolled the dice before John_Mc directed to this thread. Thanks John!

Thanks to everyone who shared their experience. Looks like I made a good choice.

Let me know how it works out. I'm still on the fence about ordering.

Financially, it would make more sense for me to rent. However, the convenience of owning and working on my own schedule for future needs is a major consideration.

I know what you mean. Seems like when I rent something like that I always realized that there was another stump I forgot just about the time take the unit back to the rental yard.

I look at it this way, even if I don't use it all the time, I'm still using it more than my landscape rake which seemed like a good idea at the time.....

It seems like when you rent a piece of equipment like a stump grinder, the carbide teeth are always shot (dull) and you get to work 2 times as hard and 2 times as long to accomplish the task.

I made the mistake of telling my buddy about getting one. He has a number of stumps he wants to grind down. He has realized the stump bucket he purchased is not a great tool for larger stumps.

Haha yep. One or 2/3 stumps, ok, but "a number"? Might need some compensation for that. Pizza and beer at a minimum.

Welcome to the mechmax team. I started this thread when it was priced at somewhere around $2000 and still looked like a bargain, but a year later when it hit $1400 is when i really couldn't resist any longer.

After my memorial day weekend of tree and stump work, my neck took a few days to recover. Depends on your tractor setup, but I'm guessing for most of us, you can really only turn your head around to the right side, to watch the grinder and work the controls simultaneously. Gotta stretch after!

I plan to use a wireless camera. Not sure if I can jury-rig something that will attach to the stump grinder, but if not, I will set up a folding stool and mount the camera on it.

Someone had a picture on here somewhere (unless I'm thinking of a YouTube video I saw?) of a camera they had mounted on their stump grinder. I'm thinking it was a magnetic mount?
