How quickly can it happen?

I remember this type of horse rearing when I was younger like 45 years ago.
I grew up with tractors and I don’t remember them wanting to roll as quick as today’s tractors. (mine included)
I’m taking about side rolling.
I don’t know if it’s just me, having took a good 20 year break from being in tractor seats, or if the stance, wheel base was wider.
I have done everything with my excavator and maybe a few hours on skid steer.,,.BobKitty.
But even with a roll bar that mine has today. I am super cautious or aware, back then the word roll bar or cage almost hadn't been spelled yet.
And the units then were a ford 600 and a ford 4000 with F.E.L and backhoe it was an old state bushing tractor with hydmatic selectospeed I think it had 13 forward and 2 reverse speeds. It was a clumsy dinosaur. But it severed well.
And again this was early and mid 70’s.
Be careful and pay attention guys.
Wheel base was much wider back in the day.

What was told to me and the notorious Yanmar Roll over wasn't actually a roll over. The Prev. reply pic!. The kid was pulling fence posts with a chain wrapping around the rear drive wheel. Using it for leverage! Apparently the tractors Throttle linkage came loose or was loose and stuck wide open and killed the kid. This is true! My mother his bus driver and there that morning when it happened. Tractor on it's side screaming wide open what was told to me. Resue had to cut the fuel line to shut it down. The mother was a bus driver also.
That's another thing about the OP's video. The tractor wheels are not spinning after he bails from the seat, which means he either had a dead man switch or turned off the key as he bailed. Who would think in real time to turn off the key???

Full video....

He said at the beginning he didn't want to lug the battery back to the tractor; yet at the end, there sits his truck, presumably with the battery in the truck. Humm_. liteworks is right IMO.

Depends on the tractor, and the owner. Both of our older tractors, one from the 50's, the other from the 60's, have adjustable wheelbases. Our IH 424 is adjustable both front and back. Even the old Case SC tricycle tractor could be adjusted in the front by reversing the wheels, but people rarely did that, as it made it considerably more difficult to steer.

The wheels aren't "spinning" but they are still moving a little when they leave the ground. Looks to me like it stalled on the way over, but not quickly enough to overcome the angular momentum of the flip.

On CUT's, or farm tractors? If we call the 1960's Kubota L-series the first true CUT's, and look at their wheel track widths, they seem to be about the same (actually narrower) as most today!

Front wheel Displacement on my 63 is Adj.. My Import Yanmar not so much. The Rear was easy the front doesn't give you many options. I had to reline the Org. Bridgestone Old and Dry cracks. Gempler had the full Nylon reline. While I had the tires off out of curiosity I checked them. The Disp. was closer than I thought. They was already swapped by the dealer so I never Knew. The fenders lined up Perf. and what they look like now with the wheel offset Swapped. The Disp. makes a huge difference. That was not the cause of Notorious rollover though.

Or the engine stalled.

Watch the video again, turn up the volume, and listen.

The tractor engine dies well before the flip is complete.

One thing many viewers don’t seem to understand is he wasn’t attempting to pull the Case tractor when the Ferguson flipped, all he was attempting to do was get the loader bucket off the ground so he could somehow secure it in a partial up position so he then might be able to actually pull the big Case with his little Ferguson.
Overall He did a lot of very foolish things in the video and is very lucky to have survived but I’m sure posting the video will help save some others from getting injured or killed.

At about 1:20 in the full video he said the object was to tow it to the barn to diagnose it.

At about 2:00 he says they have to pull it out with something, and the pickup truck isn't going to do it, so let's go find the other tractor.

At 2:22 he says and now were in here, and that's what we're gonna use to pull it out.

At 14:25 he says you guys come with me, we're gonna get a get the other tractor after we find a chain.

At 18:15 he says hopefully it'll lift the bucket up and we'll just sorta pull it by the arms.

Now I know he said he'd need a 2nd driver to steer the dead tractor. But I think for sure, once he saw that the bucket came up easy, he gives the thumbs up, and tries to give it a yank to see if he can get it rolling, and he's probably thinking "if I can get it to roll, I can pull it a bit, then get another driver to steer" or something along those lines.

I think he had every intention of pulling that tractor a few feet once he saw the bucket rise.

And a Trailer hooked to the Case so not much of a doubt he had all intentions of pulling the tractor and the trailer to it. Aerial Pic. shows it's there. If he would have removed it there would be signs or mentions of removing and unhooking it. No doubt again he was planning on pulling it. Scoth the bucket to keep it from dropping after lifting the bucket. My Wagner FEL. is slow. That one may drop like a rock.

He moved pretty fast when he hit the ground. If he would have moved that fast to press on the clutch pedal there wouldn't be a video to talk about.
Yeah, ok... I can tell you this...When that tractor turns itself over the axle it happens so fast you almost can not get your foot down fast enough. I've seen tractor pullers in the old days the could sense that balance and get away with it, and some of those nuts in India that haul the sugar cane wagons with the tractor standing straight up...But you have to have that feel and experience..or your dead or lucky.

Well, who has the best AI will be a huge factor in determining the outcome of any future first-world conflict. That much is true!

It only happens so fast that one can't react in time for those that just send the throttle to the moon, pick an high gear for some reason and then just take the foot of the clutch as fast as possible. Of course there is hardly any time to react with this practice.

There is absolutely no reason to not pick a lower gear, release the clutch and then increase throttle slowly. Even if things want to go south, it gives plenty of time to avoid a disaster. Also, most tractors have a foot throttle. It's there for a reason and this a very good situation to use it.

And again, the drawbar is there to do the hard pulls, pull trailers, etc. Not the 3 pt hitch.
