Robot mowers

The new Lymow 10 amp says 1.7 acres a day.
Wife said if I bought a ZTR she would help mow, so I did and it's been fantastic.
Recently a YouTube pop-up showed the new Lymow sales pitch. I am almost as excited as she is over this new concept.
It's not the task, it's finding time for the task/repeat.

I don't think at 1.7 acres a day it could keep up with the grass growth in growing season ... Will it mow in the rain?

I mow 15.5 acres ...

Probably not. There are people out there running multiple units for larger areas. This unit I bought was less than 2k usd, including a second battery.

I think in the future there will be larger and more expensive for rougher and larger yards.

I theory I could have bought 3 of these for less than a mid range zturn that wastes my time and covers me in dust and grass clippings. That would be roughly 4.5acres cut every single day(you can tell it to cut in the rain or not) without doing anything.

That's good if someone doesn't enjoy cutting grass, or simply doesn't have the the time, or can't get a reliable service to do it ...

While I bought my Z-turn used, new it's over $17K, but will mow 3 acres an hour ... My used tractor and finish mower were tad over $20K ... Plus fuel ...

I use to have a few Roomba's as my wife at the time, nor I really enjoyed vacuuming ... But I like cutting grass!

How often do you have to clean the deck on these mowers? Seems in the spring have to clean my zero turn deck every cut or 2 hours.
I would not keep it in the garage to recharge if attached to my house, lots of fires from EV equipment.
Last year in the first 6 months of 2025 New York City had 750 fires from EV scooters, hoverboards, and bikes.

Ive been mowing with my ZTR for 7 years and never cleaned the deck. Every year I jack it up to sharpen the blades, it's still clean.

@Fixastuff do you know of any manufacturers that are NOT in china of these robot mowers?

My situation is that I'm sometimes gone for 3+ weeks at a time as long distance truck driver ... So when I come home I have 2'+ of grass to mow, hence my 31 HP commercial Z-turn, and the Commercial rear finish mower for my tractor ...

If I could send out a robot to mow the 75'+ around my house a few times a week to keep it cut down, I like about 3" around the house, doesn't give much room for mice to hide, or the snakes that follow ... So my cats can see them better, then they will take care of them ...

How do they do with bark mulch, it's only about 1"-2" higher than the lawn (it needs to be "refreshed here!... ?

Or gravel driveways?

I just saw this link ... Are any Robot Mowers Made In America?

Basically to answer my own question ...

Stihl - iMow

Due to the internal components of the iMOW, these mowers are not made in their American plant.

Instead, most of the manufacturing for their electric mowers is in China or the Philippines.

Ambrogio-
All Ambrogio mowers are designed at their Tuscany facility in Italy and the mowers are also manufactured in Italy.

Husqvarna - Automower.

These feature-packed and commercial-quality robot mowers are designed in Sweden and built nearby at facilities within the U.K.

Robomow -
Robomow mowers are made in the heart of the flourishing Sharon region of northern Israel. They assemble the products in Israel and export them overseas.

EvaTech TREX -
EvaTech is a U.S.-based company in Port Richey, Florida and they design and build the TREX and all their robotic mowers in t
he United States.

When I get enthusiastic and mow within 2 days of a rain I will hit softspots and have to pressure wash the mud off the underside.

This makes absolutely no sense to me. I could mow on 100 degree day following a 3 week drought and my mower would need a cleaning. All of my mowers. When they were new or not. The only thing that helps is a grinder-wire-brushed-clean-surface and Fluid Film.

Yeah, I mean, I don't know. Maybe some decks just run cleaner

Yeah, my John Deere 7 Iron Pro stamped 60" deck is basically "self cleaning"!

Having welded corners can restrict air flow and catch stuff ... Higher tip speed on commercial mowers also help keep the air and clippings moving!

So this thread got me looking seriously. We have a ZT on the budget list and for what we want/need it's at least $7k.

From what I can tell, the Lymow option is considerably different than competition in 2 main areas. 1) it uses real blades, so it handles tougher grasses/weeds better. 2) its tracked system allows it to handle terrain better. The negative appears to be sound, but we're on 20 acres with few neighbors. It's still quieter than a gas/diesel mower, just not as quiet as the razor types.

The razorblade style cutters on most of them can't handle our native grasses. We don't have a 'lawn' per se.

For half the price (or less) of a ZT, we may give it a shot.

Sound?

It is way quieter than anything gas powered. Maybe 10% of the volume of a zturn with blades engaged.

The people complaining about sound are used to the razor blade robo mowers that are basically silent.

/ Robot mowers #179
Yeah, I have to wear earplugs when I engage my deck, sounds like an airplane!

I just renewed my guy to do our three properties this year.

Yeah, it will cost me (i don't know, not gonna bother figuring it out) $3-4-5k? But I don't need to do ANYTHING. Lawns look great all the time, no worries about "the thing didn't connect to the docking station - WHERE IS IT???", "blades need sharpening", "batteries need to be replaced", "motor seized", etc. AND at 2 out of three properties, it's an expense, meaning I don't pay taxes on the cost. Which, between the Fed and our lovely State, is nearly 50%.
