Our power company cut down a path of our trees about 650’ x 15’ that would encroach on new power lines. They were nice enough to limb them all up and mulch the limbs. Lots of trees down.
Broke down and purchased a 72” grapple from Kioti. Made my life way easier that the way i usually move the...
the cat loves the dog. could care less. me, i get annoyed when dog sticks snout under my leg and throws my leg out of the way looking for treat. Once she learns something she never forgets. when i do laundry she runs and sits next to washer and dryer. if a clothes item falls, she picks it up and...
ohmed them out. 1 is defiantly bad, another is marginal. other 2 ok.
but ill just replace all 4 while im at it. there 15 years old anyways.
checked relay and the display module is sending the signal for relay to close. the power from the 60 amp fuse is traveling thru to glow plugs. after...
the old time Onan generators were all USA manufactured and assembled. then they sold out to Cummins. After that sale, it became harder and harder to get parts for the older Onans. i had a great cast iron 7KW workhorse Onan that was bullet proof...up until the sale. than parts became real hard to...
just last week our electric utility came onto my property and cut all trees within 15 ft of the power lines. its ok by me, i wouldnt want a tree to fall on lines. they limbed them all up and left the wood on my side of the fence. they took all the branches. i now have 3-4 years of...
I have 20 acres of trees, and my trees or neighbors trees are always falling across fence lines. We each clear our side of the fence. Never been an issue. I usually repair the fence if needed. Its only field fence so not hard to fix.
Its cheep to clear, would never think of contacting insurance...
Be careful what you wish for. My wife thought it would be fun to hide the dogs treats. Now, everytime she comes indoors, the dog is sticking head under cushions, floor mats, even the cat (i hid a treat under the cat once) looking for her treats.
In 2006 it was purchased by some entity…possibly a holding group. And reorganized. New management, new goals, etc.
I forget what percentage of the home standby market it holds..it used to be 90%.
Ive sold and installed kohler, some B&Stratton, and cummins. There all about the same in...
Ive visited the manufacturing facilities. They make their own engines used in the standby units. They make their own rotors and stators. These are all back east. The portable generator engines are mostly made in Vietnam and china. There are a few models made in the USA. Its the home standby, air...
As i said earlier, older generacs used chinese made parts. After generac was purchased by its new owners quite a few years ago, they remade the company. Now they have a company back east that manufactures their rotors and stators. And another company in usa that manufactures the engines. They...
Gee, this is the exact same thing im using. I currently hace 1650 hours on mine. Just did the service last week. Washed and waxed the tractor also. Still looks new
This is a tough call…. My dealer said i should stick with 90 weight gear oil instead of transmission oil. Said it will prevent seal leak better.
I never know whos more correct.
Ive traced a glow plug issue to a bad plug. I desided to replace all 4….. once one goes….
I ordered 4 new ones, but cant find the proper torque requirements, and/or weather i need to use a sealant.
Its for my 2010 DK45HSE
Thanks for any help. I cant find the info in the service manual.
Not so, dayton has manufacturing facilities in usa. Mind you, i dont think dayton makes generators. There big into motors, drill presses, etc. Grainger bought dayton drill press operations in the 1990’s.
Problem is, even if something is made in USA, it will almost always have foreign sourced parts. Just how it has been for a long time. Not every item needed for a product is made in the USA.
Me, i NEVER shop at walmart. Cant stand the place.
some of Generac’s portable generators are made in usa, some in china. Hard to figure out which is which. Some older generac whole house standbys used chinese made rotor and stators which failed alot. This is why generac started making their own. I see very few failures with usa made ones.
My black lab is the same. Knows each of her toys by name. I can ask her to get the black bone and she will pick thru her toy basket and bring me the black bone. I ask her to bring me her dish, she will blast off to the kitchen and return with her dish
When i do a trash run, her job is to bring...
The only problem with really old refers…..they SUCK electricity. And suck it bad. I’ve placed a demand meter on many old units to show their owners why their electrical bills are so high. A new refer takes a fraction of the power to operate.
I just serviced and wash/waxed my 2010 dk45 last Tuesday. It still looks fairly new even with 1650 hours. Thats why i keep it under a lean too. The sun just destroys the paints.
I made the mistake of covering a 2 horse trailer with a custom cover. Once i removed the cover i found lots of mouse nests under cover, all screens in trailer eaten away and the think smelled of mouse pee for a long, long time.
Ac units started to be added to homes in the 1960’s. I know, cause my dad had a house built in calif in 1960’s with ac. House had 100 amp panel with Sylvania breakers as i recall
My friend bought one of these chinese side by sides, had to replace heads one time under warranty…..took something like 6 weeks in shop. The new heads are shot now, and hes shopping for a kawasaki mule.
Holy hell. Still glad i moved out of there 30 years ago. I have a 4000 sf house now here in idaho. I refuse to say what I paid to build it 30 years ago…..but it wasnt much. Mind you i did most of the work myself.
Flat face allow more flow, thats why they are used. But they are a PITA to connect. Thats why i use the attachment tool for past few years.
https://www.branchmanagerusa.com/product/qc-mate-hydraulic-coupler-clamp/
I just use my NOCO Genius10 battery charger that has a 12v supply option. But yours is pretty cool. Those printers are pretty cool. But id add a fuse to protect battery from shorting out
There are a heck of alot of homes with working knob and tube wiring. They are mostly #10 wire that ive found. Way back when they didnt use much amps.
Very much so a fire hazard. For years now most insurance companies wont insure a house with knob and tube….if its found.
Things have changed since the time i was loking at the kubota and the kioti side by sides. Both were super noisy. And at the decibel level that ate my brain.
Ha…reminds me when my wife wanted me to buy an enclosed tractor so i wouldnt be assaulted by the weather while working. Afterwards she wanted a new 5th wheel horse trailer……..
I kinda remember them old boxes when digital signals kicked in….. ut i just junked the old tvs myself. I love the flat screens. My old 19” crt tv weighed like a hundred pounds.
My kawasaki has a 2 cylinder gas, liquid cooled engine with power steering. Its not very noisy at all. I didnt like the diesel side by sides as they were quite loud. I work along side horses in fields.
What..l built my house in 1996. All my Milgard vinyl windows still work, and look, as good as new. I had to replace glazing in 2 windows where lawn mower shot a rock thru….but thats all.
I was once called in for service on a owner built house where bath outlet wasnt working. Opening the outlet up, i found that the house wiring was done with lamp cord…at least at this point. I packed up my tools and left. Im not touching that. I told owner my insurance would not allow me to touch...
Thats weird. My GE Monogram built in 48” refrigerator/freezer was purchased in 1998, still going strong. I had to replace a stand alone GE Freezer 2 years ago. It wad purchased at same time as the refer. The only appliances i seem to go thru are washers and dryers.
My powerpack is ONLY used during winter for snow blower. Do not use a powered cooler. The cold weather cools it nicely. If i used it during summer, i would add a cooler. I use a 20 weight low viscosity hydraulic oil as per manufacturer. All lined are 3/4” with flat face couplers.
I lucked out. My first and only house was the one my wife and i built ourselves on the 30 acres i own in idaho. I built in in 1996, so its turn of the century…..
Ive been in construction a long time before building my own home, and its built very well. Very few issues over the years.
Mind you...
On my kioti, the fuel solenoid wasnt operating. It turned out that the relay that supplied power to the solenoid wasnt working. Im not sure how your particular unit is set up. Also on most tractors, a seat or clutch switch could affect fuel shutdown. You should check all the safety switches.
I was real skeptical about the quality of the harbor freight refrigerated air dryer, but its worked flawlessly for many, many years. I have a secondary paper water trap after dryer, and ive never had to change it since installing the dryer. That thing removes 100% of the water.
I just pay someone to haul and stack my horse hay. I did it myself for too many years. Now, its easier to pay some younger guys to do it. Our Fjords only get grass hay. Alfalfa hay is way too hot for them. Alot cheeper to keep than my arab and quarter horse that lived on alfalfa.
I bought a used kawasaki mule 4010 back in 2018. Its a 2012 manufactured unit. Has been flawless. Amazing machine. We use it on our 30 acres. Not used off of property. Not a fast machine, but didnt need that. I needed and wanted a workhorse for the property. Has not let me down.
Me, im a firm believer in refrigerated air dryer, but i have a plasma cutter bench in my shop. If it wasnt for this, id proboibly just use a system like your describing.
I just ordered a new 60” grapple for my tractor. Its a Kioti branded unit from Jordan Tractor. I looked at quite a few others, and they were way too overbuilt for my tractor. I dont need an 1100# grapple thats designed for a skid steer. This one is well built but only weight 285#. My tractor can...
Not only are you supposed to drain a water heater regularly, they need the anode rods checked and replaced, unless you install an electronic anode. I replaced the crappy drain valves with a full port drain. This allows for full water pressure to evacuate all sludge build up in water heater. On...
This is my so called barn cat. She insists on being out in barn all day, but has finally agreed to come indoors at night. Gets along with house cat and my dog. Had her chipped and spayed. Have chip operated cat door in tackroom to allow her to have some safety if she stays out all night.
No...
Ive had an ro filter under kit sink for 15+ years. I swap out filters every 2 years. The unit included a selftest indicator thattells when to change filters. There not that expensive. That water is only used for drinking. Bottled water in some cases simply comes out of a tap. Some out of...
One thing i have noticed is 12 g extension cords tend to be downrated to 15 amps once they reach 50 feet and over. If you notice the HUGE 20 amp 100ft extension cords used on construction sites, they have different, thicker insulation materials and have real 20 amp receptacle ends. Not ment to...
I have a cord reel at each end of my shop on the wall. The one by the door for outside work and the other on the far wall for occasional use. My shop has wall outlets all over the place….and i mean all over.
The one on the far wall used to be located at the roll up front door . But it was a...
Do your neighbors have the same issues? Maybe you need a relocated or deeper well. Being texas…..i just think about fracking and oil well waste products. I lived in lubbock for 2 years.
glad you got it repaired. i dont use my nail guns as much as i used do when in construction. i occasionally get them all out and oil them and shoot a few nails. hopefully they will work when called upon in the future.
Ha, did the same thing with my access points. There still there, and still work, i let guest access them when we have gathering outdoors. I set them to have limited guest access. What surprises me is, im 67 yo and can figure this crap out.
Spent the best part of the day out harrowing the horse pasture and my trails thru the woods….that is until i lost the lower link pin on the 3 point hitch.
And of course its a special designed pin. Dead end with a side plate and bolt. Couldnt just be a standard hitch pin.
No way im going to go...
I tried and didnt like the outdoor access points due to dropped calls when they switched to different accounts. I just recently swapped everything to mesh network. Added a mesh in back half of house, plus one in shop 300’ from house and barn about 200 feet from house. A MAJOR upgrade. Now i no...
I also had the guy at pintsize.me add me to his cloud, so now i can monitor mine from anywheres theres cell reception. Its like $10/year. I figured ill try it out for a year, see if i use it much.
I had the guy that builds these things preload mine….so it was plug and play. But i do love it. I ended up changing mine to an ethernet cable due to poor wifi reception out by generator, but that was also plug and play.
What popgadget says…… they also have a low thd so work great with electronics overall. When mines operating during power outage, nothing flickers or moans. Hard to tell im not on utility power.
My 3rd generation starlink modem is set to route traffic thru to my existing wifi mesh network. I did this so i could have option of 3 separate levels of wifi. I have a guest wifi that cant access my home network, i have an IoT network for things like garage door openers and yolink hub, and the...
I would use the front loader to crush the old barrel, than take to metal scrap bin. But my burn barrel is 5 years old…still going strong. Holes drilled in bottom, and i turn it upside down in winter. Nit rusting.
It keeps changing. Sometimes slower (80) but other times 250.
But still nice and fast
Cant wait until i get 400 up and 400 down fiber later this year.
Here is current
I added 2 jackshaft liftmaster openers on my carriage barn roll up doors last winter. Got tired of manually opening the doors over the years. Man, its sweet to just push a button.
So when its fully down, there isnt a bar and spring assist?
Im not sure this is something that can just be added, ive never seen a roll up door without one
No it does not. We update our policy every other year. They are constantly upping the value to replace every time adjusted for inflation. Heck, this years policy shows the base dwelling replacement value is 4 times what it was 10 years ago.
If you dont update this occasionally, you wont be...
I gave up on chemicals years ago. Now days i simply scrape all weeds with bucket and regrade areas taken over by weeds. Works just ad well as chemicals.
Ya, my log splitter valve has built in detent. But i have to manually stop it from fully retracting as the splits i do are 16” long and the ram is 24”. Dont want to waste time fully retracting.
Not the way i split wood. I cut trees into 6 foot lengths and haul them to my splitting area for stacking on forks. There, i cut everything into rounds and pile. I back tractor into piles to split and pile split wood to dry during summer. Can tarp if raining. I dont split huge amounts of wood.
We added a dog room with bathtub to my utility room. Its something like 8’x10’ or so. My dog paid for it…..with sale of puppies.
Heated, window for air, includes a mini man …er… dog door to garage. The dog door is weatherstriped, has threshold and lock.
Wife went nuts painting and decorating...
The splitter uses very little flow, as they dont move fast. I wouldnt worry about anything. Alot of portable splitters run on 8 hp motors running small hydraulic pumps. My home made splitter runs off my 45hp kioti using 1/2” hydraulic lines. Fast enough for me that i still have all my fingers.
A commercial unit… id love to get one myself. Until i saw the $30k up prices for a decent used one….
I bought a pto unit years ago. 6” max. Works great, but slow.
I only use the (simpson)Titan HD screw in anchors. Heck, they hold up the shelving of most pallet racking systems ive seen installed. But your right, there not ment to be continually removed and reinstalled in same hole. I use these to set generators to base concrete also.
Ya, i can see that. I have a new f150. But i probably wont be towing much with that truck. Heck, i had to install air suspension just to support the bed slide with my generator repair equipment.
i pull with a diesel F350, and i can honestly say ive only had one time with the truck acting squirrelly, and that was that time i had to load tractor backwards with generator at rear of trailer. every other time loading and hauling, ive never seen any issued if tractor was moved a few inches...
I still work maintaining generators and some minor electrical work for friends and old customers. I still like keeping updated as to generator operations.
Ya, the router and starlink are backed up with ups to cover it until generator starts up. I get email and push notification immediately upon power loss, or any change of state in the generator. I can monitor the generator from the cloud anywheres. This outage only lasted 1.2 hours.
I have a 10 gal 110v wh above the tack room in my horse barn. Last one went about 15 years before i had to replace it. Not efficient at all, but works ok. Didnt want to spend the $$$$ on a instanthot system
The freezer and refer units are simple puck devices that you toss into refer or freezer. No cables to the outside. Batteries have lasted way over a year now, still shows good strength. You can set the alert temps range your looking for. Very easy to set up. Great customer service. Any question...
I use the ones made by Yolink. Sold on amazon. They have both direct drop in bottom of cabinet kinds ( i use this type under refer, sinks, etc) and ones with probes (i use these in catch pans under waterheater) . The same system also handles driveway alert, temp and humidity protection for...
I learned by fixing the damage caused by an unseen leak. I have 8 in use now. One went off about 2 weeks ago, found clog in condensate drain pan of furnace. Could have been a mess.
Also, the front end differential and bearings, etc are designed for the lift. Go over that by too much……rebuild time.
I maxed out my lift by adding a rear weight box of 1000#. Was moving alot of items right at my max lifting capacity when i was installing large generators. Ended up with busted...
Ya, i stay away from chinese knockoffs. I once, years ago, bought replacement Remington cordless replacement cutter heads off of amazon cause they were 1/3 the cost as from Remington site. They looked the exact same, even the packaging. But they literally pulled my whiskers out of my face...
Good point. I have aprox 100’ round trip on mine. My Grundfos pump handles that without issue.
Hard to see in pic, but its to the top of the left waterheater mounted on block. The blanket was temp while soldering final connections.
Then again…. I just went into electric heated tack room and wifes garden shed with 3 racks of grow lights for her garden starts and electric heater…..maybe its all her fault
My biggest problem…..we use too much kwh per month. Can't figure how to cut down. Have switched to nearly all led lighting. Mostly all gas appliances. I know in the winter i do have some heat tape and heated water troughs that have to be used, but even in Summer its too high.
Ya, ive been hauling junk for nearly 50 years. Its gotten to the point i can tell by how the truck reacts as i shift the load as to where i need to secure it down. The only time i didnt get it correct was one time i had to deliver a large water cooled generator. I had to back the tractor in as...
My sisters house in canoga park, calif had a 60 amp panel with 4 screw in fuses for lights and outlets and a couple of larger fuses for heat and oven. I ripped that out and brought in a 200 amp service and rewired entire house. All new outlets and wires. Had old knob and tube junk. We replaced...
With me, ive just had too many service calls over the years about people having issues with residential 15 amp circuits. Generally happens when someone plugs anything larger than a vacuum in one. Its just generally recognized that residential track homes use 14/2 on everything except...
ahhh. Ive run hundreds of miles of the stuff….12 and 14/2 easy peasy to run and use. I just dont like romex due to rodent damage ive seen over the years. Ive generally only used the 1000’ spools of the stuff due to the ease of use. Just place a piece of 1/2” rebar in spool and set up between...
problem with my home theater, if i turn on a good movie like Black Hawk Down, the subwoofer rattles the house and sets off both the dog and wife into b***h mode. i think my HT was a waste of money. hardly ever gets used.
Ya, in 1996 my electricity costs $0.05/KWH. Now with all added fees, future repair fees, and upped hydroelectric fees were averaging $0.11/KWH. This is still pretty cheap, but our bills do seem to be getting higher over the past year. Maybe i need to be less lazy and burn more wood over winter.
Im an electrician, so i way overdid my house when i built it in 1996. Heck, no romex for me. Its all steel flex and metal boxes with MC light whips. All open shops and barn are emt pipe. I also ran twin cat5, and phone lines to all rooms. I no longer have land lines and never used any if the...
Honestly, my return line was 1/2” copper, insulated entire way back to garage, maybe 50 feet. If you feel the return line right before the 1/25th HP circ pump, its almost same temp as pipe out of water heater. Thees not much heat loss thru system, so water heater doesnt run continually. I bet...
I added a pipe from furthest bath to WH and a timed recirc pump also about 10-12 years ago. I had to replace the pump motor last year, but other than that, it works flawlessly. About 1 second to get hot water in any house faucet.
Look at michiganiron site. Part #24 or 25. Kind of confusing. I think 25 is the tank itself, 24 is entire component.
https://www.michiganironandequip.com/oempartfinder#/Kioti_Tractor/CHASSIS/RADIATOR_GROUP_EX45M-T035A/01-39%7c%7eDK45SE-M-CHASSIS/0139DK45SE0173/y
Man, i feel for you. I used to rebuild gas engines years ago with my brother. Never tore into a diesel engine before. Something like this would be above my pay grade (comfort zone).
When my kioti had a leaky seal, i just replaced the seals on both sides. Didnt take too long. What i SOUULD have done at the same time was to replace both bearings on each side also.
I think the leak was caused by carrying heavy front loads. A few years later, the outside bearing on left side...
Also depends on soil type and time of the year. In my rocky soil you'd never get a trencher down 36”… never. The geo systems ive been around are 4 to 5 foot deep here.
Have had 3 diesel trucks and a few diesel tractors over the years. North idaho = cold mornings 6 months of the year. All diesels are plugged into timers for block or radiator heaters. Done this for past 30 years.
When i was still in the electrical business i was thinking of buying a mini excavator….but after running the numbers, renting when needed was way more practical. Maintenance and repair on excavators is above my wheelhouse…as they say. I helped a friend swap track and a few drive wheels…..Major...
Here in idaho, they simply swap out tanks. They dont sell them as far as i know. I know i found a large, empty mig gas tank at an old storage unit we were clearing. Itook it to gas supplier and did a swap out for a slightly smaller tank, full of gas. No papers needed.
If they do sell the tanks...
Battery load tester,…. I have 3….. use them all the time. But i buy at minimum 50 batteries a year for my generator business. My goal is to replace them BEFORE they go bad.
My 2020 F150 has the 10 speed with manual override available on 1-10. You can lockout any gear you dont want to use with the +- thumb switch. Mind you, i wont be towing with this rig.i have my old reliable F350 diesel for towing.
ya, i tried doing that with my cyclone rake, as it has a 10’ x 6” hose. Sucked up dirt and rocks also….hard on intake fan.
I simply run over pasture with spring tooth harrow and break up manure nowdays. 2 times a year.
I got a donkey from a BLM auction many years ago. They had a full pen of them and the minimum bid was $150.
I went up to the pen and he was the only one to come up and leg me pet him. Rest took off. My wife made a JOKE bid of $50 to get me mad at her. They ended up accepting the bid because...
Funny, i was just watching a Boston Legal episode wher Denny and Alan went on a canadian fishing trip. Helicopter fishing. Looked fun so i looked up that lodge and fees. $18,000 per person off season, $22,000 peak per person plus $350 per night if you want a water front cabin. Than add $17,000...
I loaned my chain saw to my brother. I told him about mix gas only. He promptly
reminded me he has used chainsaws longer than ive been alive. After using my jug of mix, he ran straight gas. Siezed engine.
Family…..
I do notice fogging happens only after initial startup, and i have some snow on cloths and shoes. After about half hour on heat defrost, window open ac compressor on, fog is gone. Then if i close side window, fog never returns. Usually at this time i can start cycling the ac compressor.
When i got too old and broken down to easily get into the saddle of my quarter horse, i took up carriage driving and bought 3 Norwegian fjord draft ponies. Now its sleighs and carriages, and some combined driving competitions.
Ok, i misinterpreted the 50/50 mix statement, i guess it meant 50% fresh gas with sea foam. My brain just floated over to fuel:oil. Minds been on chain saws. Im cutting up a huge pile of trees the power company had to cut while moving power lines to expand freeway. Ill have firewood for 5 years
i have 3 horses, and i personally know alot of people without horses that spend WAY MORE than i do for my hobby. my brother is into RC airplanes and RC jets. he spends WAY more than i could ever spend on my hobby.....look at my friends that ski. always traveling somewheres to ski...multi...
These are not battery trickle chargers, they dont maintain constant power output. They shut down until power drops to a set amount, than charger starts cycle again. I have attached a dc amp clamp on the positive cable and i see the amp draw during charging. Once the light goes solid green, amps...
On single cylinder hydraulics, there should always be a hose run back to the tractor fill port. I was told not to just leave 1 hose unhooked. What Kioti did was have me add a connector to the hydraulic fill port on my tractor, than the second drain line went there. It still uses only 1 of the...
When i look at noco site, i see 2 Completely different descriptions on charging led indicators. I see green flashing for fully charged, and i see this under support.
They also sell hand held hydraulic t post drivers, that can feed off of tractor hydraulics. Me, im cheep, dont want to spend the $$$. I simply only do my fencing after spring thaw. Real easy to drill fence posts and drive t posts that time of the year.
Also, my noco 10 has 3 orange/ red indicators which light up in sequence as its charging. Than goes into pulsating green. By the next day its solid green.
Mine start red, later go to a pulsating green, then a solid green. Ihave 2 of the 1 amp, they both do this. Checked battery voltage, 13.2 after solid green. One is set standard flooded, the other is on AGM for the tractor.
I was joking. Ive been invested in market for over 20 years. Have made so much, the wife and i are now having more spendable cash available than we did before we retired. Its amazing not to have any money worries. Everything is paid off.
Mine is a 2012, gas, grinds a little going into high gear. But i dont chase cattle, so dont care about speed. Way back when i worked cattle, it was on horse back.
