The reason for using angle was to extend the deck enough to be sure the blades couldn't come into contact with the deflector. I was concerned that it might clog up the deck in use, but it hasn't been a problem. Most of the debris just shoots out the front now.

You might try bar tread tires or using tire chains for improved traction, but mowing slopes when they are wet is asking for trouble.

With it running when you pour fuel into the carb, it looks like a fuel delivery problem. Could be some residual rust blockage or the ethanol has caused something to loose its ability to seal so the diaphram cant quite deliver enough pressure to lift gas out of the tank.

Other than having to replace belts, the tillers themselves are usually trouble free. They used control rods instead of cables to engage the drive. The tines were made of quality metal. Never imaged I would see the day when these old kohlers and briggs would be replaced with chondas.

Be careful with that. The pto should slide off easily by hand once the locking pin is depressed.

I think it is hard to grade to within an inch. They used to make aluminum rakes that were 3 or 4 feet wide. That might be an option to get the soil leveled to final grade by hand. Not being compacted, it may settle.

If you look closely at manufacturer slope specs, many ZTR gas engines are only 15 degree rated, some 20 degrees because of oil lubrication.

I mowed for years with a yanmar 226d powering a 5 foot jbar cutter. If the vegegation is too thick, I went to a lower gear, raised the cutter, or took a smaller bite. 25hp isnt ideal for mowing many acres, but sometimes you make the best of what you have. Sharp blades help.

Don't know how to take that apart, but I do know it's much harder if I try to repair something when I'm tired and frustrated. Do those parts need some penetrating fluid to soak before you try disassemble?
