    Hardie Board Siding?

ponytug has mentioned this a couple of times, but it may be worth repeating that you need to consider the work required to prevent water intrusion between the new siding and the old lap. Many installers do a good job on the visible outside, but not so good a job when it comes to flashing and...

The existing siding looks like tongue and groove. With the joint being horizontal, particular care needs to given to not allowing moisture to become trapped.

    Hardie Board Siding?

About 3x more expensive. Paint may last longer, but still intended to be painted, too. If the siding is dry and in good condition, why wouldnt you install tar paper over it, and then nail on Hardie? The tar paper is to protect the substrate from water penetration.

    Critter Proof Foundation Vent Screens?

Most of the residential HVAC installers I've dealt with roughly estimate the tons required to heat and cool based on total square footage, but then oversize to make sure they aren't called back because of inadequate heating or cooling later. Then I've seen commercial installs where engineers...

Chinese mini dumper stalling in reverse-what to check?

The tracks are slow enough that I am not being jerked around on it by going full stick F and R, but do you think I am I increasing the odds of damaging the machine by operating it when trying to feather the controls stalls it?

    Critter Proof Foundation Vent Screens?

Radon mitigation is not something I can speak to because you're basically trying to trap it and expel it before it reaches your living space. Leaky ductwork in a crawl space can literally suck it into your living space. If you're only dealing with excess humidity, you can monitor humidity...

    Critter Proof Foundation Vent Screens?

Ductwork insulation is to prevent condensation forming. Would not remove it. Don't know why you'd remove floor insulation, either. You can calculate the expected energy savings for your area and your particular home by performing a "manual j" calculation that takes into account the...

    Critter Proof Foundation Vent Screens?

Don't know what the problem is dieselscout80 wants to solve, but my first thought is that basic grading and drainage outside need to be considered first and then a roll of heavy mil plastic might be a lot less expensive to try than the cost of a professional "encapsulation."

    Critter Proof Foundation Vent Screens?

You're welcome. As for energy savings, I haven't gotten too far into the details to be able to say for sure, but got the impression that most heat loss is through the ceiling. Crawl spaces aren't heated and cooled enough to affect energy use as much as living areas. I am personally not sure...

What bugs/diseases/critters have ya'll seen that weren't around 30-40 years ago?

40 years ago, I could walk to the end of the hay field before seeing one tick which would be a normal dog tick. Today, I could get two or three or four dog ticks in my yard not to mention tiny seed ticks which I never used to see. Used to not see whitetail deer. Now common.

Chinese mini dumper stalling in reverse-what to check?

Raising the machine completely off the tracks with the loader and a jack, I see no difference in the stalling behavior. If I try to feather the tracks, machine tends to stall. If I go full stick F or R, it doesn't. I haven't tried loosening the tracks. I think I will try operating the...

    Small engine with points?

With it running when you pour fuel into the carb, it looks like a fuel delivery problem. Could be some residual rust blockage or the ethanol has caused something to loose its ability to seal so the diaphram cant quite deliver enough pressure to lift gas out of the tank.

    Buying advice

Part of this depends on the actual work to be done. A 25hp tractor could do all that needs doing on some types of 3 acres unless you mean to skid out some huge trees. Why not hire out the clearing to a forestry mulcher or dozer and save yourself the time, work and expense of clearing?

Zero turn vs. 4X4 tractor for mowing

The nearest machine to a tractor with both the power to mow a large width on hillsides while having good turning ability might just be a front mount kubota or john deere 4x4. Not cheap, but what is your time worth?

Zero turn vs. 4X4 tractor for mowing

Worth mentioning is many small gas engines are rated for no more than 15 degree slopes, some 20, before oil lubrication is an issue. ZTR that use swivel caster front wheels can loose steering control if the ground is steep enough.

Rotary Cutter Is a stump jumper needed for a 4-foot brush hog?

I mowed for years with a yanmar 226d powering a 5 foot jbar cutter. If the vegegation is too thick, I went to a lower gear, raised the cutter, or took a smaller bite. 25hp isnt ideal for mowing many acres, but sometimes you make the best of what you have. Sharp blades help.

Rotary Cutter Is a stump jumper needed for a 4-foot brush hog?

Because of the overlap lost while mowing, you won't be getting a full 4' cut from a 4' cutter. Probably more like 3.5 feet which isn't much mowing acres of land. I think you might do better with a more common 5' unit used, but get a lighter one, not a heavy duty that will be too heavy. If...
