Long shot- Do those valves by any chance incorporate piloted check valves to prevent the valves from leaking down? My top and tilt cylinders have them and so they don't open until receiving the 500 psi pilot pressure, IIRC. So even trying to feather them starts with a 500 psi surge.

Replacing the low cost socket is the practical thing but if you're stubborn, like me, take some shoe polish, paint pigment, or some other colored paste that won't dry soon, and coat the ball, stick it in the socket, and look for an abnormal contact position. Then decide if it's repairable.

OP, I feel your pain. Spine surgeon who fused my neck said a spine is like an old log chain. If you weld two chain links together, then the adjacent links wear even faster. Fast forward a few decades and a lot of time on vehicles with no suspension and it made mine worse, even without trying...

Anecdotal, but I've seen plastic components get brittle on vehicles after the last 20 years or so, maybe even in less time, but before they needed work. Snap fits, connector locks, even light structural components. Don't know where that will end in trying to keep a vehicle for decades. I guess...

Checking stainless with a magnet can be misleading. 300 series stainless can be either way, depending on how much the mill cold worked it. Most 400 series (often called cutlery alloys) are magnetic, and also the common precipitation hardening alloys.

I was lucky to find this old thread. This post is for the next guy. It was as easy to fix as Bird described it in post#2. 14mm socket on two bolts, flip off the rubber cover and blow all the accumulations away. Here's mine removed from a Grand L 4330, still with some debris in one of the holes.

I think I've seen bolt shanks smaller than their thread OD and I think it's because they use a rolled thread. The rolling process displaces some of the metal, which enlarges the threaded portion's OD, so they have to start with smaller stock to compensate. That doesn't account for SAE stock...

For a home-brew step on a tractor, I'd borrow the idea on a lot of utility trucks' rear steps- make the uprights from 3/4" to 1" steel cable. Stiff enough for support; flexible enough to survive hitting something.

Odd break for a casting that's mostly in compression. If the casting doesn't look defective, then maybe the cylinder is still pulling after the bed is fully down on the frame. In that case, the next cylinder may fail too.

This is counter-intuitive to me. To turn sharply downhill, you need the uphill wheel turning faster than the downhill wheel. Braking the wheel you need to turn faster (uphill wheel) doesn't make sense.

Do you have a bucket for your Bobcat you could use in a pinch? I've used my CTL bucket on my Kubota before. You feel it's extra weight and have to lift it higher for full dump but it works ok. And it's 6" narrower so it won't cover the Kubota width.

You might specify the tire size too, in case other Kubota models use the same wheels/tires.

I made some from concrete reinforcing mesh and they lasted for years. What I didn't like was that the rusted wire surface was abrasive to the plant limbs, swaying against it in the breeze.

It's the torque curve that matters. HP is usually reported as maximum HP, which is THE sweet spot on the torque curve. A powerful, peaky engine could be whimpy above or below its sweet spot.

I looked at those about 15 years ago. They had a video of doing donuts on a putting green and you couldn't see any damage. IIRC, the edges of the tracks are chamfered with a shallow angle to ride up when skidding sideways. Probably not much good on a side slope though.

Whatever you decide to do, make two of them while you're at it. If the first replacement eventually breaks, you can use the second replacement while you figure out what to try next.
