Check to see if the fuel tank is venting...either through the cap or a vent line. A mud dauber could have plugged the vent or it is pinched. If you run with the cap loosened, it will tell you if this is the problem.

If the primary is not opening up all the way at idle, then it will rub the belt and will want to creep forward. Either the bushing is sticky or it is worn or has broken parts.

Engine has the primary clutch and that drives the secondary with the belt. In the primary, the weights, arm shape, and spring all dictate how the primary shifts. The secondary also has spring tension/preload, and ramps that will change how the clutch shifts. Generally, the tighter the secondary...

Are your 3 point arms level? Being that the mower lift comes off of the 3pt, the adjustment for leveling 3pt will affect the mower too. Also, the rods attaching the mower lift mechanism to the 3pt has the springs and adjustment nuts. Mine was double nutted. So, first, get your tire pressures...

Maybe a weak lift pump or fuel stop solenoid? Being that it starts right up, I would lean toward the solenoid. Some solenoids have pull and hold circuits so it might be weak on the hold.

Here is a video of a similar tractor that has a different type fuel filter housing that has a bleeder on top. Your housing must have a bleeder too or crack the line going to the pump.

Alcohol does not "rid" the water. Instead, it allows the water and fuel to mix and be burned. That is the issue. I would rather physically remove the water before the injectors and pump get damaged by it.

I would not be checking for vibrations at idle or with the flail lifted high so the pto shaft u-joints are at such an angle. I would find a hollow for the flail to sit as close to cutting height as you can and sit it on blocks. You don't cut with it 18" in the air at idle, instead, you have it...

I have seen people advising NOT to pre-fill your new fuel filter on a modern common rail system. If you do, you may contaminate the fuel system. Another thing, they say to NOT crack the injector lines on those same common rail systems to bleed them.

I doubt it. I bought the 982 in the late 90's and it had new paint, engine, tires, seat, fuel tank, steering wheel, etc....by the dealer. He would restore tractors during the winter months.

I also have the snowblower and original HD 60 mower deck (made by woods?) for the 982.

The all-wheel-steering option was a game changer for me so I have a Deere X744. For yard mowing, it does a great job and the wife loves it. She mows the yard while I work on other stuff. I also have a 1983 982 IH Cub Cadet.

If a ball bearing cage has come apart, the inner race may not run concentric to the outer race. This would allow the mower spindle to not run true and would shake. If this is the case, it won't last long.

We cut dead hard oaks here and a good oiler makes a difference. I swapped my 460 oiler out for the PNW HO oiler and put the 460 one in the 361. That bumps the output up in case I'm in that dry hard oak.

Over the years I have seen t-stats that have a vent and others that don't. Some even had a jiggly brass piece in the vent. I've never had a problem drilling a 1/16" hole in the flange. Just put the hole toward the top.

Read this..... 455 blown lift pump fuse ".....so for other 455 owners there is a selection of fuses that seem to just hange from pigtails on the right side (side with the forward/reverse pedals) the one that controls the lift pump has two pink w/blck trace wires going into it and it takes a 10...

I agree with the other posters. The bolt is partly sheared and the clutch is partly frozen/rusted to the gearbox shaft. Spray lube on the connection and keep working at it. (y)

The cutter had a clutch, not a shear bolt. The clutch didn't slip so the bolt was forced to shear. Maybe clutch models don't have the clip as shear pin models do because you would have to disassemble the clutch to install the clip. This is why we loosen the clutch to slip it every year.

Did you lube the shaft that the cruise paddle rides on? There is also a damper (sba378910020) that slows the pedal movement. Then there is the peddle centering device that has a spring, rod, and guides inside and it is suppose to get the pedal to neutral when released.

One way that ear could get that side force to break it off is if the hitch pin came part way out and torqued only on one ear.

It looks like you got that replacement ear stuck on there pretty good.

For a winter blend, contractors here will end up with a 50/50 or 60/40 blend to keep from gelling in very cold weather. If you run a high blend, I would suggest using an additive to add lubricity to the fuel as kerosene is lacking it.

I'm thinking that those 2 switches are just on/off switches so it would not matter which way they were plugged in.

I have the KK Flex Hitch with the dog bone linkage and it allows more flex when hitting stumps with the front corners of the cutter. I assume that those two dog bone stop bolts never were tightened when it was first setup as they get removed and reinstalled. The self locking nuts would not have...

Your missing bolt is a 3/4 x 3.5" long (not including head) and the bolts where the bent support meets the deck is a 3/4x2" bolt. The bolt and self locking nut takes a 1 1/8 wrench.

You have to watch for bungies, tiedowns, rocks, parts, trash, bottles, cans, wood, etc that the roadies leave behind.

You are missing the stop bolt down by the left dog-bone (below left lift arm). The nut on the right one is about falling off too. The Flex Hitch linkage is sitting all cockeyed in the picture. Maybe that had something to do with your issue.

I blow out my radiator (JD X744) every time I mow. I use a blow gun wand and blow from the engine side (reverse flow direction). Use a mirror and light to check if you can see through the radiator...if you can't see through it, air can't get through it. It seems for driving around, the cooling...
