    Buying on Ebay

I buy on ebay and amazon all the time, mostly tractor parts. I never have problems with the sellers. The only thing you need to watch is feedback rating, and shipping time. Some of the stuff is coming from china or pakistan and can take months.

Where do hydraulic reservoir lines go on deere 301a?

This one has an oil cooler so the big return line runs into the bottom of the cooler, and then the hose from the top of the cooler runs into the top of the reservoir. and then the big return hose on the bottom of the tank runs to the pump. The small hose from the pump up to the top is pretty...

Where do hydraulic reservoir lines go on deere 301a?

Thanks for the info true temper and Tx Jim. There's no fitting (or holes) on the shifter cover, I'll have to get a better look at the brakes. But by what you're both saying it sounds like one puts oil in and the other is a return. So basically that tank should stay full? I don't think there was...

Where do hydraulic reservoir lines go on deere 301a?

I'm working on putting this back to normal and I'm not sure where the 2 little lines coming out the top of the reservoir go. I've attached a pic. It was like this when I got it. The front line is just hanging under the tractor. There is a piece of fitting in it, and there is a fitting on the...

    tire cracks filler

I have to agree with DieselMonk. Those tires go for years with chunks missing. You wouldn't believe the tires on my personal tractors. I just replaced one pair a few years ago because they were 2 different sizes and I had a nicer set that I could put on it. One of the old ones had several lugs...

John Deere 301a only goes backwards

I put this back together and it wouldn't move at all. It wasn't fully together but enough to check it out. I checked the pressure and it had none. While checking I reached over and pulled up on the clutch pedal and there came the pressure. I learned that on this tractor if you don't put the...

The pilot bearing issue. I pulled the outer race to get measurements to get a new pilot bearing and the center actually was in there. packed in the hole in the crankshaft behind the outer bearing race. It had to break during assembly. The hole is too small for the shaft. Turns out there's 2...

John Deere 301a only goes backwards

I finally got to the root of the problem. I had the grandkids today so I didn't get to check on parts but this morning I moved the reverser out of the way and layed it on its back so I could look at it better. And then I pulled the main clutch and to my surprise it is brand new. So new that the...

John Deere 301a only goes backwards

Here's a couple more pics. This is the backside of the hub that the front clutches are in. The small part at the end is about 2.3 so maybe it is the same as the other tractor. The larger part is roughly 3.5. As you can see, it has a large groove. That's where the oil goes through to get inside...

John Deere 301a only goes backwards

So that one allows for .003 wear. I'm positive this is way past .003 The shaft is the front clutch pack. John Deere 301a only goes backwards

Thanks :) I'll get some pics in a couple days. I looked at it again this morning after posting. There's really nothing that keeps it in. Unless it's the pilot bearing but that would be pretty weird. I really believe the hydraulic pressure keeps it in which would also be weird but there is...

John Deere 301a only goes backwards

Sadly, I've come to the decision to part this one out. That seal at the front has nothing to do with the hydraulics. And I've come to the realization that there isn't supposed to be a thrust washer to hold the hub in as the cover is aluminum. Putting pressure on an aluminum housing doesn't seem...

John Deere 301a only goes backwards

The front half of the reverser is messed up. The seal is shot and for whatever reason the clutch pack is digging into the front housing. I believe it's moving ahead far enough for the oil to escape from behind the clutch pack. I don't see anything else wrong so I'm pretty sure this is the...

    John Deere reverser issue

I'm trying to repair the reverser in my 301a. I found the front seal completelty shot, and a bigger problem. For whatever reason, the clutch pack is digging into the front housing. (pic below) There are no thrust washers or anything in it. Also the center hole where the seal goes is a good...

John Deere 301a only goes backwards

I finally tore into this. Turns out the reverser is the entire center housing between the motor and transmission. John Deere 301a only goes backwards

I wound up taking the valve block apart. Nothing wrong in there. Not really much to go wrong that would cause the problem it's having, other then a blown gasket, which wasn't the case. I did check the pressure. reverse port is 150, forward is 0. It's got to be leaking inside. Can anyone tell me...

John Deere 301a only goes backwards

Good idea. There is 2 ports on top that I'm pretty sure are for pressure testing. I might just do that, although I'll have to put it back together first. Front tranny seal for ford 4500 with power reversing transmission

Yep. The one in the block was leaking of course. The 3000s have the same problem. That's a pretty stupid place for a freeze plug. When they leak you wind up with water in the starter and clutch, and then the clutch winds up struck together and the starter full of rust. I've seen that problem before.
