A lot about this tractor makes me think it's in the 4000 series, but the loader and backhoe is definitely smaller then the 4500. My 4500 has a 13' reach. This one is a good bit smaller, probably about a 10' reach. I'm not familiar with the 4400. It could be one. It's definitely an industrial model.

Yep. The one in the block was leaking of course. The 3000s have the same problem. That's a pretty stupid place for a freeze plug. When they leak you wind up with water in the starter and clutch, and then the clutch winds up struck together and the starter full of rust. I've seen that problem before.

The flex plate is fine. I just had it off to change the rear main seal when I had the motor out. Everything seems in pretty good condition except that I forgot to change the torque converter seal.

If I had to choose one or the other I would agree with you. The scraper is a much better tool for maintenance, and if it's a well established driveway that may be all thats needed. But I would buy both used before picking one or the other.

Those type gears are usually hardened steel. You can't weld on them. If you do it will weaken them and they will go out really fast, like withing minutes of use.
