    Kubota vs Massey advice

@EddieWalker - I too have bought parts for our Massey Compact tractor from Agriteer. They are online and ship all around the country. See Agriteer | Agriculture & Farm Equipment Supplier I often do have to go the Massey website to look up part numbers.

MF 1526: Questions about bleeding systems after fluid change

We run a Massey 1533. Yes, the steering/pump system has bleed screws and yes, the air does need to be bled. We were amazed at how much air was trapped in that system and had not worked its way out running for 20 minutes. The front axle did not require much. Like the photo supplied by...

How much ballast for a 40hp machine (TC40DA)

I used to use my Hog as a counterweight - very effective... But as you say, hard to maneuver especially in the woods. We bought a ballast box, filed it with rocks and stones from the property. Estimated weight is 600+lbs. It is almost as effective as the hog but far easier to maneuver...

1st time at my new property & 1st time ever brush-hogging - some lessons learned

This is advice that I have a hard time learning. I am not on the property full time - in fact, I am there perhaps 5 or 6 weeks a year. So, when I am there, there is much to do and too little day to do it. Add weather... and well, quickly we fall behind. On too many occasions, close calls...

Anybody mount Ratchet Rake to forks?

@davrow what an interesting idea! You plan to line the forks to the hooks and then strap around the fork and frame? Hmm.. The floppiness of my forks might be the limiting factor.. no down pressure as the fork would tend to fold up - but the strap/cables might keep that from happening...

Used MF 1526 for 3 acres

We use a 1533 - about 600 hours on it now - most of those have been put on it in the last 5 years after we took it out of storage. The 1533 gives just under 25hp to the PTO - so we can run a 5 foot brush hog. We mow 20 acres twice a year with that 5 foot hog. She runs great but I do have to...

    Old Brush Hog 286 purchase

The 32hp JD820 should handle that Brush Hog 286 just fine. 5 foot hog needs about 25hp from the PTO. Yes, in heavy grasses, you may have to slow down for the tractor to keep up. The MF1533 we run with 5 foot brush cutter has that issue. Have never sharpened blades. Have had fence wire...

We have a 1533 - not too different from your tractor. The only controls that can cause a no crank when viewing the wiring diagram are the PTO and the Neutral switch. The seat switch knocks out the fuel solenoid to shut down the engine but does not drop the ability to crank. There are several...

    Rotary Cutter Size?

I run a 5' rotary mower with 23hp at the PTO.. I think you should go 5' for your need. Should almost be the width of your tires - right?

Rotary cutter / mower / clipper / bushhog -- blades stopped spinning

I'm going to ask a stupid question: did the PTO gear lever pop out of gear? Turn the PTO electric clutch off. Depress the clutch (if not an HST) Move the PTO lever out then into gear. I have had this happen on our Massey. Every time it happens, I have a bright red face because I feel like...

@ovrszd, that's a great point! water pump.. check the flow - tests thermostat and water pump all at once. (I remember doing that back when I was younger on my '58 Ford.. ) Fits with his 15 minute run time too! I appreciate the knowledge on this forum.. I hope the OP soon reports his findings.

blow the radiator out to clear the chaff and debris? That was not in your list of things you have done.. Is the fan operating properly? We have a 2005 1533... She runs like a top - 450+ hours.. Only overheating has been when the screen was packed with garbage or the fins in the...

conflicting advice on using bucket with rotary cutter

I mow hills.. pretty steep hills. For stability, the bucket helps. That said, the bucket makes the whole rig longer and does make it harder to turn when in tight places. If running on flat land that you know, you likely do not need the bucket on. if on land you do not know and there is a...

Massey Ferguson 1533 built 2005 - Loader hydraulic coupler troubles

I wanted to close this out. Turns out there was nothing wrong with the female socket. The issue was that when the hose was yanked from the female, the nipple/male side of the hose was distorted, out of round and a guy with eyes that knew what to look at spotted it immediately. I ended up at...

    Pats. Why bent washers?

They are pricey. You will loose lynch pins and washers. Just a fact. The cost of the washers run from $3.99 to $10.99 for two. I bought a whole bunch of thick durable flat washers for what it cost to buy 2 PATs washers. As said, the only downside is often I need to take the pin washer off...

    Pats. Why bent washers?

They are bent such that the pin can capture them. i lost most of ours and simply purchased nice steel washers. They serve the same purpose and do not mess with the horizontal movement of the attachment. I do have to pull the pins and remove the washers to pick up to keep the washer out of the...

Box scraper vs. rear blade for this type of road work

We have a half mile driveway with a 400 foot rise from the bottom to the top. Making and maintaining drainage ditches, keeping the drive crowned has been done with a back blade that can be heavily angled in several planes. We use the box blade to move material to low spots and to drag the...

    GC2400 w/ 5' Brush Hog

Sort of a rule of thumb is you need 5hp for each foot of width of the brush hog. I doubt you have 25hp - which is why you mentioned you would not be cutting heavy thick grass. If the 2400 runs 20hp, I think you would be fine if you get the machine in balance. That hog probably weighs...

Rake grapple able to pull brush out of the ground?

I will give my vote for the ratchet rake - does a great job of grabbing and pulling all sorts of brush... Used ours to clear a bunch of thorn bushes in March. Then I snagged a hydraulic line. Next trip I will get the loader fixed.

Smoke, rough running and no power above an idle

I'm glad you have it fixed but I am unsure what the fix was. Is your conclusion is that it was the air filter causing this? Color me skeptical... If the air filter was blocking that much air flow that it could not make power, then "blowing it out with only a little dust coming off" seems...

Smoke, rough running and no power above an idle

We run a Massey - not a Mahindra... last spring, I dumped 5 gal of diesel into the machine and it started doing exactly what is described here. It was bad fuel - it had been given to us because the guy who had it no longer had a diesel generator and he didn't know what to do with the 5 gal of...

    MF GC2300 starting problem

Can you clarify what you are saying here? Are you saying that when jumped, it cranks and starts? And are you saying that as long as the unit from which it is being jumped remains connected, it will continue to run? And finally, are you saying that as soon as the jump battery connection is...
