2008 F250 4x4 Diesel or V10?

   / 2008 F250 4x4 Diesel or V10? #91
I had a an F250 5.4 with 6speed manual and now have an F350 V-10 with 6 speed manual. Mileage about the same unless you hotdog the V-10. No such thing as hotdogging the 5.4 so that was not an issue.

The Ford salesman I trade with said city folks buy the 4WD diesels "just because" even though they need them for nothing. The comment about impulse buying is right on. Plus long term debt for vehicles is now the norm.

I get what I want by waiting on special orders. The last one was 4 weeks, this one went 10. Some can't live with that but I can.

As far as trade in value, I will loose on the Xl body style I buy and the V-10, But I did not spend the money in the first place. Bot a truck for 24k rather than 35 to 50K and let the money earn what little interest the boys at the Fed decided to let me have.

Unreconstructed - I'm right there with 'ya, brother. I ordered my 2004 F350 XL with the V10 and only the heavy-duty performance goodies I wanted, like 4:30 rear end, snowplow package, camper package, skid plates, etc., out the door for $27,000. Since I don't drive a million miles a year, or pull 12,000 lb trailers constantly, it just didn't make sense to go diesel. Besides, for some reason, I really like "base" trucks.

I like them (base trucks), too. Make you look like you're not more wealthy than your customer. ;)

I'm in my 40's and finally bought my first truck with PW/PDL and a power seat. I feel spoiled

I just read motor trend today. They had an article on the F-150. Hurricane 6.2L will not make its' way into the 150 this year, but maybe the Superduty?

GM IS dumping the 6L for their own 6.2L, which is just a detuned version of the Vette and cadillac CTS motor.

Interesting perspective. I had a lot of contractors come out these past years doing work for me.

Some of them looked to be very, very well off. :)

Trucks are a reflection of your company and yourself when you roll onto the jobsite. If it looks too chromed-out and jacked-up, a lot of customers may think it looks like you're making too much money.

I prefer to put my money into the core of the truck rather than the chrome of the truck.

I've got a 2008 Ford F150 Truck accesories brochure.

On pg 15, it shows a Whipple Supercharger kit for the 5.4 that adds 160 HP and 160ftlbs of torque. It is co-designed by Ford Racing and Whipple.

Interestingly, if you got the same numbers for an equivalent blower for the V10 you'd get 522 HP and 617 Ft Lbs!

Is the Transmission the same in the Diesel and the V10? IE Could the V10 drivetrain handle those numbers? If it was ever offered by Ford, would it void the warranty and why?

Runner,

I make my money in an office--the folks here give me all kinds of grief because I am too cheap to buy carpet and auto doorlocks when I get a new truck.

Most of them have car payments. Not me.

Anyhow, when that rubber floormat gets faded, I just shine her up and she looks like new.

Really do like this truck. My favorite of the 7 I have owned since 1972. This one gets better mileage than that old 360 with 4 speed and no air.

Both trucks get the Torqshift trans. There's a couple aftermarket upfitters that'll do a supercharger, but it's pricey when done thru the Ford dealership.

A guy a once knew got a factory blower on a Dodge V-10 and he has lots of problems with the belt that ran the blower. I contemplated doing the same thing back in '01 and it came out to about the same cost as a diesel right off the lot and it still didn't have the bottom end torque of a diesel.

Builder is right the tranny is the same but not on the pre 2005 models. Only the 05 and later got the torque shift. That is about the same time they turned up the HP and Torque rating of the V10. My guess is the pre 05 model will not handle the gain due to the drive line not being able to take the extra power.

I'm pretty sure my 04 has the torque shift, or at least I was before you said this....anybody know the designator off the top of their head?
