2012 Kubota BX2660

I've been looking for the past few months at tractors and Sub Compacts, I finally found what I think is a good enough deal to pull the trigger on. I'm looking at a 2012 Kubota BX2660 with a loader and 60 inch belly mower with 50 hours for $11,000. From what I've found that is a very good price around me. My main questions are does anyone have this tractor, and if so how did you like it? I've already read a bunch about being careful with the transmission cooler being exposed. More importantly how does this machine perform dragging/loading decent size logs, nothing crazy. Moving snow, finish mowing without turf tires, moving dirt and gravel, maintaining driveway with box blade. Does anyone have real world experience with the loader capacity? I appreciate any input you have! Thank you, and I hope to be a Kubota guy soon.

You want a subcompact for dragging logs???? Around here "decent size" is when you have to cut from both sides with a 24" bar.

If you really want to pull logs I suggest a compact and a lawn tractor/riding mower for the lawn.

Yea, my decent size are cut down with a 16" saw. I don't have anything of size, mainly just smaller pines.

I think you have pretty tall expectations for any subcompact.

Enlighten me, last thing I want is to be unhappy with my purchase. I only have 7 acres, I do all my work by hand right now so anything will be better than that. Where do you think the Subcompact would come up short?

BX series tractor are best regarded as wonderful lawn mowers with the ability to do light landscaping tasks. Kubota sells bazillions of BX tractors yearly and many owners are completely happy with them.

With only 9" ground clearance with mower removed, it is difficult to take a BX into woodlands. Because of low ground clearance, HST cooling fan under the tractor is vulnerable to ground damage. Those who take BX tractors into woodlands often armor underneath. Several venders sell armor kits.

Removing/replacing a Mid Mount Mower, with its front PTO shaft, is a tedious, sweaty task.

FEL bucket lift capacity is around 500 pounds. Not much by tractor standards BUT SURE BEATS TRUNDLING A WHEELBARROW OF 80 POUNDS CAPACITY. Tractor is 1,389 pounds bare tractor. With a full bucket, the tractor can be a bit unstable.....but so are other tractors. Front axle is thin. Plan to keep 350 to 450 pounds counterbalance mounted on the Three Point Hitch when doing Loader work. Weight behind the robust rear axle unloads weight from the relatively weak front axle.

The three reasons owner/operators trade up from a BX:
More tractor weight.
More FEL lift capacity.
Greater ground clearance

The BX tractors are solid for what they are. Excellent first tractors. Easy to service yourself.

If mowing is your primary task you may be happy for years. BX will do your other tasks but will be somewhat slow. (Allowing for 5" overlap, a 48" Box Blade only works 43" per pull.)

You can tow log sections with a BX and 1/4" Grade 70 chain. Saw trunks into reasonable weight sections. Tractors are designed to PULL.

Selling a used tractor is easy. Selling multiple light implements in order to buy heavier, wider implements for a new, heavier tractor requires a lot of time. Depreciation on implements is generally greater than depreciation on a tractor.

I had a BX2660, a 2009 model. It was my first tractor larger than a L&G tractor. I was amazed how much it could lift (FEL) moving tons of gravel, and large stones....around 300-400 pound native limestone rock. It mowed really well with the 60 inch belly deck too. It was trouble free over the three years and around 300 hours of ownership. My 3 acres was not full of wild brush and overgrown trees however.

I did move up to a larger Kubota tractor in 2012 and again in 2017 just because I could and wanted to...am keeping both of them. You may want a larger tractor at some later date, but you can't go wrong with the 50 hour BX2660/price for what you have indicated its usage.:2cents:

I do caution that the attachments that fit BX2660 may not be what you'd want for a larger tractor at a later date. You can sell them if needed but would probably take some loss.

I will give you my input. I had a BX2350, an earlier model of what you are looking at, for 10 years. I mowed with it, moved dirt and gravel, hauled fire wood etc. It did everything I asked. I recently switched to a JD 2025R. It is a size bigger than a BX.

The main difference is bigger tires and a bigger loader bucket. It rides better with larger tires and the bigger loader is nice. I also like JDs auto connect deck.

25 horsepower is a magic number for Diesel engine size not needing emissions equipment.

You can not go wrong with a BX, but I would keep my eyes open for a used B also. BXs are usually a lot more common used.
