JD 2305
I have a new 2305, and found that the oil in the rear sight glass is low. I check this as I was attempting to back-blade a dirt pile and found that I had no downward pressure. Anyway, I checked the owner's manual and was a little confused. Is the oil sight glass and filler plug the same for the transmission and the hydraulics??? And if so, do I have to buy JD fluid? If I were to go to Walmart or PepBoys, what type of fluid do I need to buy? My JD dealer is not that close and their hours and my hours never match. Thanks.

I know some people on here wouldn't use anything but John Deere oil. But you can use any brand as long as it meets J20D or J20C standards. They will tell you on the container. I'm not sure which on is for cold weather, and the other is for places where it don't get so cold. I think the D is for where it is cold, maybe someone else will get on here and tell you.

Are you talking about using a box blade on the rear? If so, the only down pressure you will have is the weight of the box blade. Also, auto-parts stores will carry hydraulic fluid. JC

I second that there is no down pressure on your 3PH. The weight of the implement is the down pressure. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Check the sight glass with all pressure off the machine, i.e., lower the three point all the way down, return to neutral position, and allow the loader to rest on the ground and check it when the machine is cold.

Actually, I was using the FEL. I had no downward pressure on the bucket itself. That prompted me to stop work and check the sight glass. Is there only one oil filler for the transmission and the hydraulics on the 2305?

Correct, the fill cap is next to the seat and you need to make sure all the attatchments are on the ground and the engine is off. The site window should be half to three quarters full in that position. I found out mine was low due to the fact the dealer didn't check it after adding the loader. I did find a brand at my local parts place that is referenced to JD.
