3005 replacing the 790

For those who now own the 790/3005 with the "down under" exhaust stack, how do you like it so far? I have 4 hours on my 3005 and finding the exhaust discharging down low blows back on the driver quite heavy. Has anyone installed the optional vertical stack and found relief from the exhaust. Roy will like this post...LOL

I don't like the "down under" exhaust very much. It gets black soot from the exhaust all over the loader and blows back in my face quite often not to mentioned the fact that it is significantly less manly. I've thought about getting the a regular stack but I think you have to buy it and a different side panel so it's probably not cheap.

I agree about the exhaust in the face...it's pretty bad. For those who have the old "stack" I would like your opinion on how much exhaust you experience... if at all. Would it be worth installing the exhaust stack "kit" if the kit was reasonably priced? Not much chance of that I know! Thanks.

It is part number LVB24869 and I found a price on a state government price list for $250 in 2006. Not sure what the price is in 2008 for an individual.

On the JD configurator it is $267, but looks like you need to drill a hole through the hood. I think the older 790 had the exhaust come out through the side panel.

That's correct...the left side panel to be precise.
I think Deere did away with the vertical exhaust so the 790 would fit in better with the other tractors. That carried over to the 3005 machine.

Personally, I thought that change was totally non-value added and made the tractor much less manly.

Depends how/where you use it. If mine had a vertical stack, I've have ripped it off on a limb or a vine by now. Which would be totally un-manly.

I know this thread is old, but I didn't want to make a new thread for this question. I was messing around with the Deere Build Your Own thing and in the Customize Product section, it lists the 300CX for the 3005. Can the 3005 now be equipped with the 300CX or is the Build Your Own tool mistaken?

Gotta be a mistake, the CX has twice the lift capacity of the standard 300.

I was wondering the same thing. I asked a dealer and he said know the 300 is the only loader available but he didn't understand why it would list the 300cx on JD builder. If you build the 3105 it only lists the 300 for it though and doesn't mistakenly list the 300cx (like for the 3005) so who knows. It must be a mistake though, unfortunately.
