I was perusing through the site tonight when I stumbled upon a mega thread I had never seen before. The number of views, replies and pages is astonishing. I had no idea there were any threads on this site that had gotten to that size. I thought the flail mower thread was the biggest. However, what blows my mind even more is the fact that there seems to be nothing of substance in this thread. The content is mostly members waking up every morning to say hello and report what the temperature is outside. What the heck???....Guys help me out here. What am I missing with this picture??

That's about it... it's the friendly side of TBN.

I'm surprised you haven't mentioned/perused "Pallets in Field". :)

Yeah since I started this thread I began to take a closer look and it seems to be the equivalent of Arnold's Drive-In for TBN. Weird as I never knew such a thing existed for this place. I tell you this place is like Pandora's box at times.

No never but I'm going to check it out now.

That "Good Morning" thread is the equivalent of old guys at the country store sitting around drinking coffee. I don't go there, but some of the posters I notice seem to be members who were active long ago, but now just stop by to check up on old friends.

I guess I can’t go there cause I’m not “old”. ;)

It reminds me of my old employer. We used to have a cafeteria. Every Thursday, retirees could come in and get coffee and a free donut. About a dozen of them would be there like clockwork, sit around a couple tables pushed together, and just talk. Our coffee break was at 9:00, so we'd go down to get a donut, and catch up with the retirees. Many of them had mentored us when we first started, and they'd ask how things were going, how's the family, etc.

Sometimes it's just nice to sit around and talk about the light stuff with friends. ;)

Then, someone turns in a cost improvement to take away the free coffee and donuts for the folks that built the company into what it is, probably someone that was hired straight into management with no understanding of how the company actually got where it is. That snowball just keeps growing.

No. The company that they contracted with to run the cafeteria didn't renew their contract because it wasn't profitable. They put it out to bid, and no one took it. So they closed the cafeteria and put in vending machines.

Did you see other multipage threads like

H-F tools that do $uck

and

H-F tools that do NOT $uck

There is a good deal of info being helpful to members in those 2 threads.

Decades ago in the downtown of a major city, we had a weird cross between cafeterias and vending machines. They had the coin slots and doors with various foods, but it was all (almost) fresh. You could see the people in the back preparing the food and loading the slots. This was before microwaves, but a lot of the food was hot.

At my last employer it had gotten to where the company had to pay the cafeteria & vending company extra each month as they claimed to be losing money. We got a breakdown of their profits or losses by category. Break even was the old goal with the company providing the space & kitchen equipment, tables, etc. It was pay Vend or allow them to raise prices to employees.

Nothing beats stale cellophane wrapped food in a vending machine.
I will argue that point. You apparently have never had the “coffee” right next to the food vending machine.

What I find the most interesting thing about this place is the age of a lot of these members here. You have guys in their 70's and 80's who are posting everyday on here. It kind of blows my mind as most people from that generation are computer illiterate yet this crowd here has completely blown all those stereotypes away by a long shot.
