What is the switch on the loader control lever??

It is for the 3rd loader function. It is an extra set of hydraulic outlets on the front for things like a grapple.

Suilenroc, did you pull the trigger on the 2038R?

Can anyone who owns a 2032/38r tell me how much weight the 3pt and front loader can comfortably handle, and while mowing do you miss a 2nd range or mid range? Looking at real world capacities and 2 range vs 3 range hydro for mowing. thanks

I mow using the low range...no problems...The two ranges are adequate to all the work you need...my rear tires are UNLOADED...since mowing the lawn is one of its designed tasks

My JD 855 also only has two ranges and it have never been identified as a slacker...:)

The 2 range/3 range thing has been beat around several times, but I'm always a little surprised when people say they mow in low range. I have the older 2 series (2320) and I always mow in high range except for a small steep area that I have to go to 4WD low range to keep from spinning the tires or when I let the weed field get away and have to mow 12" tall stuff.

There is a considerable overlap in available ratios in low and high range so it's hard to see the point in a 3 range transmission.

Thanks guys, sounds good.

You just described most of Vermont...even some of out hay fields make us pay attention to which way we headed when you are pulling the baler and a hay wagon...:)

I've made a deal on a new 2018 2038R with a 220R FEL and 270B backhoe. Actually made the deal over 2 weeks ago.

Unfortunately, the dealer doesn't actually have the backhoe yet and we're waiting for Deere to ship it. ETA is unknown.

regarding your OP, I just purchased a new 2038R with 72MMM/loader - no backhoe no RMM - I have a bigger tractor for the mowing, I only mow twice a year and my 78" RMM is a beast and in tall pasture here there is NO WAY that 2038 could mow - it taxes my 560D rolling some coal -

if you are grooming and keeping things up I am sure a RMM that is lightweight @ 6' should do fine - mine has mainly been used by my wife and daughter thus far other than me mowing our ditches, the 72MMM is a little less forgiving on uneven ground than my old 62 on my 2210 which was to be expected. I don't know how in the world you guys mow on the hi side of the transmission that would be miserable and hard on equipment - I have owned 4 hydros thus far and all were 2 speed lo/hi none were 3 speeds and I have NEVER had a need for a Mid range - my wife n daughter love the easy deck adjustment my only grip is the button pushing to override the MMM to keep it running when backing up mowing around things - if you are on your trails you should be fine - or out in the wide open spaces - it rides 100X better than my 2210 that was the worst riding machine I think I have ever owned ugh.....not sure why but it hurt my back terribly and also my wife's.

As far as sheer HP at 29 on the PTO I wouldn't get too many hair brained mega jobs planned but it is amazing what you can do with a little larger size, I like you pondered the 3 series but am glad I went with the 2 series for weight on my yard mainly and overall features not to mention my service guy at JD said he was glad I went the 2 series, I am more fond of those than the 3, I said really why, he said because you will be happier, I see more of the 3 than the 2.

It sounds like you wont have any issues with the loader work you are wanting to do - I have a skid steer for my heavy loader work but they tear the heck out of a yard and cause more damage so that is another reason I went with the 2 vs 3.

mine will get minimal loader work but when it does its just the right sized for what I want to do w/out causing myself more work!!!!

Oh my goodness do I love the driver position and the joystick for the loader its divine!!!

again my only gripe so far has been the annoying backup safety feature, I am sure I will eventually figure out a way to bypass that, you cant convince me that pressing buttons and the mower shutting off/on every time you go to back up isn't wearing on something - it will shorten the life of that disengage/re-engage mechanism -

I wish they would have put some other style of 4wd engagement apparatus on it, its down by your feet and kind of hard to engage/disengage, my 2210 was very easy to press/pull this sucker is a little stiff and cantankerous to me - probably loosen up as I use it more

so from a true 2038R owner I don't have much negative to say, haven't even tried to drive off my MMM yet, im sure that will be fun - and so much better than my other mowers dealing with the heavy decks I will lift this one up with the bucket to remove and sharpen blades - I don't have an elevated bench to drive on or a lift/pit so I will do it that way for now.

the informative dash is a great feature for someone that is not great at mechanical stuff, if you kill it it will tell you to move trannie to N and turn off mower switch or whatever else you need to do so you can get it running again, that is helpful for my daughter and wife as they get familiar with it.

I think I will get some of the guards for the lights so we don't tear those off - I flipped the ones on my 2210 to the inside of the ROPS but doenst look like I can do that on this one. I don't need the entire light kit and I think that is the only way you can get those guards.

Darn thing is about 1 inch too tall for my overhead door even after I adjusted it up all the way and I let air out of my tires to ride better so its going to move to the center stall - that was a bummer but I can put my skid steer over there as its short enough to fit in the smaller door. So be sure to measure one to make sure your storage will fit, I had options so wasn't a major factor but still kinda wish it would fit over there w/out lowering the ROPS.

That is all I can think of - love the thing so far, hopefully I will get more time on it and this winter I can get some other time on it doing my firewood gathering.

I don't think you can go wrong with one for most avg things around that size of tractor, they are well engineered and thought out in my opinion.
