This week I used the new setup a bit, and decided the levers were a bit too close to my elbow. So I changed the angle of the levers of the aux control valve, by adding a quarter-inch of length to the three small linkage bars (visible in the first couple photos in this thread, they are the 1/4" x 3/4" flat bar parts of the forward control setup). Making the replacement linkage bars longer layed the three levers down forward at a lower angle. The handles actually dropped 1.5 inches or so. No more elbow-room interference, and the drink holder is still useable.

This is an awesome thread, my question is, would this be the same on a 4500 JD? and did you get the parts from a tractor supply or a hyd. supplier? Thanks

Indeed a good job. This may get my vote as Thread of the Year.......

I captured this thread in a PowerPoint presentation (pics and all) and a PDF file for future reference. This setup has to be a good general guideline for most any color of machine.

Great job Jim,

Wish I had your fabrication skills, I'll be in the shop all the time. I don't believe the 2520 offers any additional hydraulic options other than a hydraulic coupler kit that does nothing more than route the dual SCV's ports to the rear of the tractor.

Question: Are the quick connect couplers you installed compatible with the factory ones? What part number are they? Thanks.

Hi CBR, Since you've already done the hard part, can you share your presentation so us lazy foks don't have to? :p

MikeDeere, suppliers of stuff:
John Deere dealer sold me the setscrew, and a replacement Oring when I pinchedone upon reassembly.
Surplus Center (.com) sold me all the hose, most all the fittings, the Prince sectional valve.
Local distributor called Ronco sold me the couplers and coupler nipples and a couple fittings I couldnt find on surpluscenter.com.
I fabricated all the steel bracketry.

Superduper, couplers and nipples: They came from Ronco (local guys), and were Pioneer 4050 p2 and 4010 p2. Yes, they are the type used on the tractor originally.

CRBR, I agree, it would be nice to have the thread captured, if you are sending them out I would gladly take a copy too!

Thanks guys!

No I don't know much about the 4500 series, but a guy who works with me is about ready to buy one, so eventually I may be able to get a look at his and make a guess. I warned him to get the Power Beyond kit installed by the dealer to avoid some hassle. However, I would guess there is a way to get it done without the expense of the PB kit. I am assuming you don't have Power Beyond or any JD-installed auxillary hydraulics, correct? Cause if you happen to have either of those already, you have the hydraulic flow already available for your use in an additional valve.

jimgerken, do you think a person could add one valve to a 2305 tractor? there isn't a removeable piece behind the loader valve, but there are 2 plugged openings in the casting, and a third at 90degrees, like the one you put the allen plug in. I would like to add a valve myself.
thanks for any info, bmw
