Your description makes it sound as if fluid does not flow thru your new valve freely. If that is the case, either it is connected improperly or it is the wrong type. For the open center systems like most tractors today (I don't know what your application is), the system is open center, so all valves flow fluid straight thru when returned to center or neutral. If yours is not doing this free-flowing, it is not open center, or is connected wrong. Let me ask you a question. From the tractor fitting that supplies the fluid (this port could be called the "out" port) you have connected a line from that "out" port to the "IN" on the new valve, correct? And then the port marked "OUT" or "RETURN" on your new valve would be plumbed back to the tractor, to the "IN" port there. One end or the other is backwards (possibly both), or you have a closed center type valve. I am guessing based on what you said. Get back to us with more info after you check this stuff out.
When it was connected, if the 3-point did not operate, you may have been able to hear the hydraulic relief valve whining. Thats a sure sign that the fluid is not flowing. Your system will overheat soon if this is happening.

it is a deere 2520 i am working on. it is installed like you said. i must have something wrong with the valve as it is a open center rated for 10gpm. gonna take it apart and see if i can find a problem. the weird part is that the loader works fine even with the valve hooked up....but i must not be getting "full" flow through the valve. the only noise i heard was in my new valve, a hissing noise like oil trying to get through a small hole, i thought it was noisy i am wondering if you hear any hissing out of your valve you installed?

Sorry, just noticed your post. I assume by now you got it working. If not, it may be backwards in the circuit. That would be easy to do, because of the way they are marked. If the valve says "IN" on one of the ports, that is connected to the flow "out" from you tractor. In other words, OUT of the tractor, IN to the valve, OUT of the valve again, IN to the tractor. Check it, could help. see ya

And the supply and return lines that feed this aux valve are secured with a couple clamps. Here is a view looking downward past the valve, following the hoses.

jimgerken, Where did you happen to get the two clamps pictured and talked about in this post from? I have looked on several hydraulic supply sites and have yet to find any like these.

Boltman: You are welcome, glad it is going well for you. The setup I showed worked very well for the 2520 for a couple years, then I traded it off for a 3720. Kept the valve and bracket though, and have it on the 3720 now. Works mint.

I know this is an older thread but very good. I am looking to do some similar TNT work on my Jd 2520, and questioning the stroke of the tilt cylinder being only 4 inches. It seems 6 inches would be better, but that gets tight on the limited 16.5 inch distance for the mid-stroke on the tilt cylinder. Any thoughts on 4 inches on the tilt being enough? S.

4 inches is enough for me. You see there is a practical limit on Tilt, because it relies heavily on the ball joints in the three arms to allow the motion. The ball joints run out of range in like about 15 degrees angular.
Top cylinder sure can use more, and 6 sounds good, 8 might even offer some more advantage.
