Hey Peter...

Confused on one thing, you say that your machine does not have a diverter? So if you follow the input hose back from the Hydraulic Oil Cooler you go directly to the pump? As seen in the diagram, both Ken and I have a diverter between the pump and the cooler.

Or maybe I am misunderstanding. All these machines have their own quirks so Hawk, don't be too discouraged. And I am in LA and not able to double check my system.

Hawk, we cross posted.

so my question is, can instead of doing the jumper as Terry suggested, just bypass the bypass altogether? Downside would be it takes longer to warm up the oil... Not sure if that is a big deal or not for you.

As I am now getting to an understanding ... on my PT1430 plumbing design, there is no bypass or diverter for the oil flow to the cooling radiator .... if the PTO circuit to the front quick connects is ON and has flow, it all passes through the cooling radiator - if the PTO circuit is OFF then there is never any oil flow through the radiator. Looks like other PT models have different hydraulic plumbing designs as to what and when flow gets to pass through the radiator and potentially activate the fan.

Very interesting Hawk. Did Terry offer a different design. Running the PTO doesn't hurt a thing (it is running all the time anyway).... Hmmm Now wait...

On my machine the oil goes TANK - PTO PUMP - SOLENOID and if deactivated TANK and if activated PTO Circuit... Nope forget it... bad idea... then you would not have cooling when the PTO is running.....

Well, the cheapest will be just a jumper hose... On my machine, it won't start if PTO is active so that is going to be a bonus PITA if you choose the jumper, always flipping the switch....

Thanks for sharing Terry's comments. Live and learn.

I would get a diverter hose and turn on the PTO at all times. You would at least get the cooling effect.

My PTO diverts to tank if the PTO switch is off, so very little wasted energy. All of it goes through the hydraulic cooler, regardless of switch setting, so my fan comes on even with no PTO running.

Mine also has the ignition start lockout. You can flip it on as soon as the engine is running. (And stall the engine, if everything is cold and you have forgotten to hook up the implement.)

Small point, there are 2 (two) oil return lines only FEL. One returns to the tank via the cooler, the other returns directly to the tank and is designed for case drains and the hydraulic post driver to have a low friction return. Make sure you plumb your jumper hose to the normal PTO return line, or you won't get any cooling.

All the best,

Peter
