Clear 50% of my land than several years later sold her for $800.oo...which was a big mistake. /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

DFB,
I'm trying to do the math here,so would the 76 be your first H-D?
If not don't break my heart and tell me you have a H-D 250 stored. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
Working on a tractor most of the day than taking a scoot on m/c,what a better way to relax. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
Well okay add a little loving also. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Hi there!
Dave from New Hampshire.

Well I bought my first "tic-tor" this past year at the age of 45. I feel 25 and sometimes act 12.

I'm 28 now and the tractor I got in the summer is my first. This excludes my JD318 mower. From a very young age I too loved tractrs and equipment at work. I could watch equipment work for hours upon hour. My dad use to think I was crazy. But you be suprised what you can learn from just watching.

Had to think about it, but I believe I got my first tractor when I was 6. Good solid machine, but hard to pedal on rough ground. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

My next tractor I purchased, let's see... it was about, uhhh... oh yeah -- last September! I was 52. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

I've still got my Aspencade, Bird, although it's getting a bit long in the tooth ... an original '82 (first year). Like your comment about the tractor, I started bikes late in life ... and was helped out by the husband of one of the gals who worked for me ... rode with me until I had the experience to get my license. He had an '81 Interstate which is what sold me on the 'cade ... but he was a little short for it and really wanted a Harley anyway ... so when they came out with the new Evolution engine ... he traded in the Wing.
3 Funny stories. First - the first day we drove to work (they always led, I trailed) he mentioned to his wife that I must really dislike Harley's (true) 'cause I was 1/2 mile back ... I told her ... "nope, I was just trying to listen to my stereo".
Second ... the "New Evolution" engine that he was so proud of ... well, after a month of owning the bike, he went out to garage to start it and there was a large pool of oil under the bike. Not as much vibration ... but still very maintenance intensive.
Last one ... friend in the Wing Riders chapter back in Alberta had been a Harley rider for many years and he decided that he wanted a more comfortable ride as he got on in years (40) so sold his H-D and bought a new Aspencade. Rode with his "former" group to Vancouver - 800 miles ... and it was the standard ride. Ride an hour, stop, fix one of the harley's, ride an hour, stop, fix another .. and so on all the way there and back. Of course, the Wing had no problems, got double the gas mileage, used no oil ... and was quite comfortable. After that trip, he had to join the GWRRA 'cause his former Harley group would no longer invite him along.

Ages? wahhhhlll ... <whisper> 51 </whisper>

PaulB ... did you know that the H-D doesn't actually stand for Willy G's and partner's names? Nope ... actuallu H-D stands for Hardly Driveable.
Hey ... just kidding and I hope you enjoy it ... and that your better half does too. Makes all the diff. I got my Wing 'cause my wife thought it would be neat ... and she always did love to ride until she passed away. However, current wife is not interested (somewhat scared of being out in the open) and therefore the Brown Beast hardly ever leaves the garage.

too bad that common sense ain't

DFB - just the basic 883, bottom of the line. First bike in 20 years, first road bike ever (just enduros in the past) Started working in a motorcycle shop at age 14, in the parts department. At the time I coud not only find the head gasket for a 1972 Yamaha 650 twin or a 1966 YG1K or a DT1 enduro, I knew the part number by heart! School, wife, kids, work, all put an end to the 2 wheeling days until my lovely wife insisted that I live out my dreams - what a deal I got when I married her. We had talked about it, and had settled on my 40th birthday as the target date. As 40 came closer, it became obvious that I needed not only a bike, but a tractor too, or else I would be too beat to ever ride anything but a wheelchair! I was supposed to get the bike first, but I decided the $ was better spent on the Kubota, seeing as we had the farm to take care of. Got the Kubota when I was 39. First tractor I ever owned, in fact I had never even sat on a tractor until then.

Thomas, sorry for any confusion./w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif The '76 I bought used in 1980. Traded my bought new, less than a year old '79 Yamaha 650 Special towards it. Boy did I take a hit there./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif Before that there was used 250 Yamaha of unknown vintage that my cousin sold me when I was seventeen. Don't I wish I had 1978 MX 250 H-D./w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif I've heard that there were only around 100 sold in the USA. Tried to pick up a SS 250 to restore a while back, no luck though. Just for grins Thomas, I've got a 1957 200cc Zundapp Challenger that I fixed up. It was featured in Old Bike Journal's Readers' Rides a few years back./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
