If it counts, I bought my first tractor, a Farmall B, at about age 18. I say if it counts because I sold it three weeks later. In those days, I was more interested in pretty girls and fast cars then I was in tractors. There is a verse from an old country song that says "Those Texas fields were hot, and a tractor never was my kind of livin" It pretty much summed up my feelings at the time.

Thomas, Marcus Dairy is in Danbury Conn. Its a weekend gathering spot for riders of all types. Huge crowds on Super Sundays. My favorite non Harley oriented magazine is RIDER. Great touring articles, bike reviews, tech and a monthly retrospective on older bikes of days gone by. Of course the Loudon Classic is THE PLACE TO BE for the Northeast in JUNE./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Thomas,
Sturgis is about 30-45 minutes west of Mt. Rushmore, 10 minutes south of Rapid City. It has been the main Harley event since the '40s. The last few years, they have had like 250,000 people show up(it's a town of 5,000). Now more than Harley's show up(in the old days they'd destroy other bikes). Other makes and clubs also have thier own rallies there. It used to be a pretty rough crowd and party, but has really cleaned up in the last 20 years or so. It's a week long event. In '95, I saw people who shipped thier bikes from Sweden and Australia. They have hill climbs, bike shows, concerts, flat track races, tons of vendor booths. In fact, you could go to Sturgis with a toolbox, get everything to build a bike right there, even paint. You could ride home on a new custom bike. It's really amazing!

It is really amazing to see that many people, and bikes in one concentrated area.

My riding has been really limited the last couple of years. Our son has most of our attention; the rest goes to work, property, and tractoring. We still get in a little riding in the Gold Country, and around Lake Tahoe.

Boots,
I have been riding tractors since age 12, got my first one at the age of 30. (needed one at my new house and it was a pain bringing one from the farm) It was a 1959 Oliver 550. Paid $2600 used it for 5 yrs. and painted it and sold it for $4000. Got my Kubota about 5 yrs ago and I am 41 now. I don't have a bike, ( I would have killed myself a long time ago if I did) I need four tires around me to feel safe! Still have my first car, 59 Austin Healey 100-6. Got it when I was 15 and never had the heart to sell it.
