All bad idea on tree removal

I use chains that are long enough so that the tree can't fall on me - attached as far up the tree as is reasonable for the task. But every tree is a bit different so tactics sometimes have to be different. It also matters whether you need the stump out as well.

I use the same technique except use a come-a-long (attached to another tree) to pull the tree down after cutting it with a chainsaw to create a hinge. I think using a tractor to pull it down is dangerous if the tree weights more than the tractor and the tree decides to fall away from the tractor. Many people have been killed when a small tractor is pulled backward and flipped over.
