Brian, this is the note I got from the vendor:

4G2 only comes in floating tail board.
4G4 comes in floating and fixed!

I wasn't given a price on the 4G4. I'm assuming it's more than the 4G2.

By default I figured I'd want a fixed tailgate. That the LP can do either is, IMO, a plus.

I am 99.9% certain that the 4G2 can be both. I have NEVER seen a floating tailgate that could not be latched down from the factory. I sent an e-mail to one of my customers that just picked up one of these 4G2-80 box blades last week and asked him for confirmation on the floating tail gate.

This is what Gearmore says.

The 4G2 Series Scrapers are designed to handle the demanding work of commercial landscaping and finish grading with its floating tailboard. Available in widths of 72", 76", 80" & 84" for tractors 50 to 70 HP, 2 or 4 wheel drive. Can be built to be A.S.A.E. quick hitch. The 4G4 Series Scrapers are extremely rugged and ideal for construction site clean-up, trench back-filling and demanding material handling. Available in widths of 80", 84" & 88" for tractors 60 to 100 HP, 2 or 4 wheel drive. The 4G5 Series Scrapers were developed for grading contractors with high horsepower tractors that demand floating tailboard scrapers. The scraper was designed with 4G4 strength, but the versatility of the floating tailboard. In float position, the cutting of hard material is much greater over fixed tailboard units. Available in widths of 80" & 84" for tractors 65 to 85 HP, 2 or 4 wheel drive.

Now to me, this indicates that it can be either way. ;)

Yeah, like I'd said early on, the model numbers and what they represent are messy- well, with what the vendor was also inputting. Everyone else seems to be pretty up-front with exactly what a given box blade can/can't do/what it is and what it is and what is not.

Gearemore should create a table like others do showing features (maybe they do, but I have not seen one): shoving everything into a single paragraph like this makes it difficult to parse. I read the "IN float position" to be an attribute of the 4G5, as the statement follows the discussion the 4G5 and then it states available widths: each model they mention they note the available widths, so I don't think that the last sentence, which is, IMO, a follow-on to the second-to-last sentence, is about the 4G2 or 4G4 series.

The HR3584 seems like it would be a bit on the large side for my Kioti (as would most heavy duty 84" units). The 78" model is listed as a "low back;" I don't think that this will be an issue, but?

How do you determine too large??

I've often wondered this....

I use a 5' on my JD2210.

Thanks for the kudos Larry. :)

Hopefully my customer will get back with me and then we will all know for sure.

Too wide and you're going to clip on things (I have a lot of obstacles). Too narrow and you don't cover your tracks.

I'm running a 5' BB on my B7800, which is only 54" wide: that leaves 3" sticking out on a side (with a little bit more owing to the fact that BB dimensions are usually ID).

Ok, the tail gate does indeed have pins to lock it in place. When the 4G4 series is mentioned with both floating and or fixed, I believe that they can be had with just that, a fixed welded rear cutting edge or a tail gate system such as the 4G2 series. Keep in mind that the 4G2 series units have smaller capacities by a few cubic feet.

This Gearmore 4G2 that Brian posted, is also a High Back model, to me that is an advantage.

Hi, folks! (I'm back- been busy setting up my new air compressor :D)

For sure, I DO like the Gearmore! And many thanks for identifying what the dealer doesn't seem able to identify: I did send another e-mail asking for clarification.

I just stumbled across this box blade - Tufline TB4078H It specs out as well as others. Not sure if that price is correct- $2,566.50. Shipping (nice that you can check online!) is $652.59. That nets out to about $3,200. Interestingly, the scarafier bar's thickness is stated as being 5/8"; the Land Pride's is only 3/8" (and I wonder about it being a round tube- everyone seems to utilize square tubes).

Seems like this has drug on forever (pardon the pun!), but I finally got a box blade:

After determining that my rear wheels were set at their maximum width that meant that a 6 1/2' blade would have just cleared and that a 7' blade was in fact the better choice. The scarifiers look like cheap chinesium; hoping that they'll hold up for a bit (I don't have much in the way of hard stuff anyway). It'll be a while before I get around to setting it up and using it.

 Now you can drag it around forever! :D
