Anyone else getting SLOW response?

This is similar to the symptoms that I'm seeing as well... I also notice that some of the fancy signatures don't get loaded (but this may be due to stoping the transfer mid-stream). Seems to have started at the end of January - begining of February.

Here's another tip for those of you with these loading time problems...

Your computer has a temporary internet files directory where each file you download online is stored... this is called your cache. Sometimes when you browse for a long period of time without clearing out these files, your loading time can slow down considerably. Since some of you might access TractorByNet.com quite a bit, it wouldn't surprise me if a loaded cache was contributing to the problem, if you haven't cleared it in a while. On internet explorer, to clear your cache, select Tools --> Internet Options --> General --> Temporary Internet Files and also history. Delete your temporary internet files, and clear your history... also it is a good idea to set your days to keep files in history down to 0 or 1... I have mine at 0 and still clear both many times per day, since I cover a lot of ground on high speed access...

Muhammad:

I wonder if Bill might have hit on something also. I see that several at least of the signature blocks are actually located on servers other than tractorbynet (e.g. acknowledge.com, frontiernet.net, etc.).

Am I correct in my understanding of web pages that when a page loads and gets to one of these sig blocks, the system will have to hop over to the other server to get the image before continuing to load the page.

This would mean that loading a page would depend not only on the responsiveness of tractorbynet but also on the responsiveness of the servers containing the signature images. So if one of those other servers is slow or down, it would appear that tractorbynet is slow... ?????

Yeah, that's something to think about... if the browser doesn't display a page until it is completely loaded, then there is a chance that the users with slow loading have routing problems on the way to TractorByNet.com or one of the other servers where some of those images are hosted... makes things even more complicated. I'll have to check some of those other servers out but again, while I might be able to load everything fine, another user with a different ISP might have problems.

John, you've pretty well described a problem I've had for a long time; not something that's just happened recently. And in the late evening, sometimes I simply can't get any response at all and just give up and wait until the next morning.

About the only thing other thing I do about it is clear out the temporary Internet files, like Muhammad has suggested.

Muhammad, Just cleared my temp and history files. I do this every day but have been sending a lot of e-mail and surfing this afternoon. A soon as I cleared them, pages started to load almost instantly./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
Thanks for the remimder.

Hello All!

Thanks for the numerous input. Bob T> Thanks for the explaination, But for me it seems to be only TBN replying to me that is the problem. Once TBN replys, the data flys! (Well, in a 56K modem sort of way..../w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif)

I will try and find a trace route freeware to run to check that out also.

On a brighter note, for me today, right now, the problem is GONE. I click to a new page and zip there it is. But, I am on at my "normal" time. For the past couple weeks, I have been logging on later than ususal. Is that a clue, or not? Also, I seem to nearly always have an 11 Hop connection to TBN (now too).

On a different note...TBN is in Seattle? I have in-laws in the greater Seattle area south of Tacoma. Nice area. Well, I am going to speed read posts while the connection is cooking. Please pardon any mis-spelling as I am not taking time to check!

Technically speaking, yes... our server is in Seattle (ok, it is actually about 10 miles east of Seattle, in Bellevue). The site building and such is all done in NY, though... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Alright! So TBN is really a Westcoast board/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif Not to far from my house. With my link, sometimes it might be quicker to drop by and pick up a hard copy.
