anyone using a WoodMaxx blower??

How do you guys remove it from the crate? Some say they used the crate for the blower after so I don't want to destroy it just yet.

I don't know if the crates are uniform dimensions or ad-hoc. You start by unbolting as much of the crate angle-iron as you can and removing it. With the two Woodmaxx implements I bought during the summer, this was enough to simply lift the implement out safely and easily. HOWEVER, with the SB-72 I received in November, once the crate was unbolted to the max I could not find any way to get the snow blower out. It looked as if it would fit, but in about two hours of trying I could not find any angle, or combination of angle and pushing/pulling, that would let it come out of the remaining (welded) crate frame. At that point I was done and simply cut through one piece of iron, allowing me to bend the remaining pieces enough to get the SB out. Maybe there was some Tetris / Rubik's Cube / Jenga approach that wouldn't have required this, but I couldn't find it.

If you have time, I'd suggest calling Woodmaxx to see if there is a trick, before you get out the saw.

Katahdin, what kind of road do you have? I have a 1000' drive that is gravel and a big hill that curls up to the house at the end. I have a front mounted plow and rear grader as well as a sander for the tractor. My neighbor had a blower on his Bobcat and hated it and finally sold it and told me not to buy a blower, I'd be sorry, jamming up with rocks from the drive and other problems. Still thinking about it, the wife says get what I need, just want to be sure before I bite the bullet. Here's what I have now. P1280012.JPGP1280013.JPGP1260005 (4).JPGP1260001 (3).JPG

After I removed all of the metal members on the crate that were bolted together, I lifted the blower up with the 3pt and was able to manually angle the metal crate enough to get it off. It's tight but doable. I put a piece of cardboard on the one side to avoid scratching the blower paint.

Good to know. I suspect that dimensions may vary some, or maybe my crate got slightly compressed in shipping, as I tried exactly what you describe for most of two hours without any luck.

Logically it doesn't seem like a company would put it in a crate that has to be sawed apart, but that was my experience, only with this one implement. (Like I said, two other Woodmaxx implements lifted right out of their crates without a problem.)

I also have the electrical controls. Very big motor and has worked well so far 0 degrees a few days ago. Only thing I did not like was no stops so could rotate forever and rip out my chute actuator wiring. Sure I could have wired up some limit switches but sawing off a few teeth do I have a dead spot when it痴 aimed at the back of my head has worked great. Better to give it a nudge to re-engage the teeth than rewire every oops. As said very impressive build quality View attachment 532510View attachment 532511View attachment 532512View attachment 532513and new skid feet are 2x wider.

What is the switch box for that is next to the chute control box? Does it relate to the blower?

Looks like you have a plastic enclosure. Been thinking of that as a possibility. Are you happy with it? What brand? Are the visuals good enough through the plastic?

Thanks

My driveway is gravel and crushed concrete. To minimize scraping up the aggregate, I installed a slit-2 inch steel pipe around the cutting edge of the snow plow, and a 1.5-inch pipe around the cutting edge of the snowblower. You still get some gravel and crushed rock into the auger, but its minimal. To clean up the bits of gravel that gets shot onto the lawn I use a power broom attachment, on a husqvarna string trimmer, in the spring.

I hear a lot about the pipe on the plow edge. I have to figure out how to cut it and attach it. I'll think about the blower for next year. I want to go one full year without a plow truck and see how it goes.

Probably the most painless, easy and quick way to slot the pipe is to clamp a straight edge to it and use a plasma cutter. Set up would take longer than the cut :c)

You should make two cuts in the pipe, to remove a section wider than the cutting edge. I tried one cut and it was no fun grinding it to fit, and it took a lot of pounding to get the pipe onto the edge.

That's the motor and gear to turn the chute. It's a metal box.

Thanks but I think we are talking about different things. I was referring in post #118 on 12/18 in MarkSold's 2nd photo of the interior of the tractor where it showed the toggle switches for the electric chute motors mounted on the fender with a rectangular switch box adjacent to it that looked like they might be wired together.

They are made in my back yard so maybe next year. I have a Canadian 66 inch for my ford but bought a 7 ft snow pusher for the Kubota FEL
Just tired of wearing 50% of the snow exiting the chute. Driving backwards also a pain for last 25 years. Kubota has a cab so pusher on front and rear blower might be ideal. The discharge fan on woodmax is very productive , forward thinking design while driving in reverse. Unles snow is more than a ft deep, a pusher is so much faster. Fewer trips to chiropractor as well.

I placed my SB-60 into service yesterday, powered by Kubota B2650.There is no doubt that it is a good snowblower. The latest storm was snow followed by freezing rain so it was a real mess, and the blower got rid of it without any trouble. The leading edge of the shave blade dug up the grass a bit much so I need to adjust.

Driveway is paved 330+ feet, but I also remove snow from pavers, and also cut a few roads on grass to the sheds and propane tank. I plan to lower the skid shoes one notch, and try to tilt the blower (with top link) to get it as close to the ground without touching.

Saturday we got our first real snowfall, about 10" to 12" so it was the first time using my tractor as I just bought it last summer. Every thing worked as it should. I was especially happy with the protective edge I mounted on the bucket to protect the lawn. As others have done, I used a plasma cutter to cut out a half inch strip of pipe then welded 1/8"x1-1/2" strap underneath the bucket. Then welded chain to the straps and attached it to an angle I welded on top of the bucket. Binders are used to tighten the chains/straps and make for a quick removal of the protective edge when needed.

Today we got another 4" to 6" of snow but I just used the ATV to clean up around the house.
IMG_0954[1].JPG IMG_0955[1].JPG
It has a down pressure system on the blade so it cuts and cleans really well. I use a Warn winch rigged with 4 lines of synthetic rope to operate the plow. The ATV also has the Warn Multi Mount system so I can have a winch on the back to pull out the ATV if I get stuck. I have had this system for 10 to 15 yrs, I couldn't even guess how much snow I have moved with it. The blade is even coated with pickup bed liner to reduce the amount of snow that sticks to it.

I flew down to Florida yesterday, so my wife got stuck with 7 inches of cleanup from the Christmas Day storm. This was her second time using the tractor and first time clearing snow. She chose to use the WoodMaxx SB72 over the snowplow and sent this pic. I think she did a pretty good job.

fullsizeoutput_3478.jpeg Woodmaxx new wider feet with my added 1/2" uhmw plastic added to bottom. Seems just right height for my imperfect paved / patched up driveway.

Thats funny you guys noticed that. It is actually an outdoor electrical enclosure box from home depot. I mounted it there so I had a cheap rugged box to hide a relay and electrical switch for my LED light bars I wired in. For the heck of it I wired a cigarette lighter in it too so I could power something if I needed to. Its next to the woodmaxx box I added recently.

We got 10 plus inches on Christmas and it stopped at 3pm. I adjusted the skid shoes down one position and the shave blade I’d now about 3/4 inch above grade. I like that, and it took care of the snow. It’s a good purchase, and am real happy with it.

Giot it hooked up finally :) Had to buy a 75K BTU Heater for the garage because the temps are below -10 continuously here. This thing is a beast :)

Note to self;
1) Buy a cab
2) Find some way of limiting the chute rotation like others have suggested.
3) Need more lights!
4) Buy a cab

Will post pictures soon.
