Attaching quick couplers?

The flat face don't leak at all. Amazes me everytime I use them. My whole life had been spent with the Pioneer couplers. Like you said, they puke out some fluid every time. Drives me crazy on my rears as they are all Pioneer. Makes a mess on the rear of the tractor.

And to stop the problem we are talking about they would only need to leak a few drops to relieve any potential pressure.

I know the proper procedure on how to hook and unhook the hydraulics. I can't figure out why they can be hard to hook up. If you are using the tractor with attachment hooked up more than likely they hydraulic fluid in the tractor is warmer than the ambient temperature. So I can't see the sun warming the oil and making thing difficult.

I know a guy that uses remotes to operate his snow blade. The dealer left the hoses loose on the loader, not attached to a bracket. He calls his buddy to help hook the snowplow up. They both have to push on the a hose to get them hooked together.

Before I had fully learned my lessons and avoid doing such things,,, I've unhooked an attachment in the morning, sunny day, tried to hook up a couple hours later and had to release pressure. Understand, there is no air to cushion this expansion. If the fluid warms a very few degrees you've got pressure.

As others have mentioned....drain a bit of oil from each hose when you disconnect. It leaves an airspace to allow for expansion. I learned this trick on TBN and have never had a problem since doing it.

I have never had back pressure so great that I couldn't just tap the coupler end on a piece of steel (either on tractor or implement) to release the pressure. Since I rarely had a rag handy, I found that a little tilt of the hose toward you (tip is opened up on the side from you) and the oil will all go somewhere besides on you. It only takes a couple of light to medium taps to rid the pressure build up.

Another thing that has been suggested but I have never done because I have never had a problem since I learned to let some fluid out by disconnecting and re-connectiong the Parker/AG connectors, is to put a short length of empty hydraulic hose with the correct connectors in series with the two existing implement hoses when you take them off. This would prevent any pressure build up in the hoses, and this would seem to work for the Flat Face connectors also that don't "puke". Of course you would need to drain this short length of coupling hose often to prevent fluid build up in this hose.

Someone should put a gauge on one of their attachments and put it out in the sun and see how much pressure it builds.
