B2320 Back wheel started to fall off @ 22 hr's

Manual says nothing about that. I did everything according the book.

If they said 50hr's or 1yr I would have done it.

First, I''m sorry you got a tractor delivered with lug nuts on backward and likely, not snugged to specs. That is a bona fide bummer.

To speak frankly, and I will try to be gentle and not add insult to injury, but the manual does say to tighten all nuts and bolts. "Safe Operation" section, item #10.

Machinery does require re-tightening. This is something one learns through experience with cars, boats, trailers, RVs, whatever. Vibration and torque causes it, of course. Tightening wheel lugs is something that even most auto manuals mention, although few bother to actually ever check. Trailer? same thing. My boat trailer used to have a sticker that said "Re-tighten Every 100 miles" or some such, as did my pop-up tent camper.

Again, I'm really, really sorry your tractor got a damaged wheel and it would have been great had your dealer stepped up. But in the big picture, this is something that will just have to be chalked up to tuition, I'm afraid.

I'd honestly forget the hour meter on maintenance. Annual once over. Grease, tightening, adjustments, visual inspection, etc. Here's hoping you get past this with as little expense as possible.

Guys, are there any specs on torking the wheel nuts?

How tight should they be?

Same question re engine oil drain plug.

Thanks!

The manual I got with my B3030 includes a torque spec sheet by bolt size. Additionally, it lists the torque requirements for the wheels as:

Torgue Specification Torque
Front Wheels 57 to 67 ft-lbs
Rear Wheels Nut 123 to 141 ft-lbs
Rear Wheels Bolt 146 to 166 ft-lbs

If the Lug was not on backwards, I'd buy that argument.

But since it was on backwards (not all of them) I believe that's what caused it ripple everything loose. When on backward can't even properly tighten it. Because it hit's the bulges on the RIM. I had a heck of time getting it off even with everything loose.

I suspect the studs should locktighted as well and they were not.

Yes, I could have caught their error but I didn't. They should take some responsibility and not stick the blame and cost on me.

Tire pressure is fine.

They will not cover the fix. Gonna cost around $170. I will not be buying another Kubota nor will I recommend them. They seemed to go immediately on defense. I want a product that they default to the customer being right (even if they are wrong) than customer wrong until proven otherwise attitude.

I've read similar stories on this forum and I dreaded asking for this simple screw up to be covered.

I'd like to call the Kubota Rep for Central NH, anyone know who to call?

Yup. Dealer screwed up the prep. No doubt about it. Should they step up? Sure. Should you also admit that for two years, you did not check the lugs? Yes sir. If you'd seen that within a month or two of delivery then you're position on the dealer having to fix it is golden. Two years later? Too much time for plausible deniability. Sorry. OK, that's over with. Time to move on.

In the identical scenario? Another color dealer might step up, but he just might not. Hopefully, on your next color tractor you'll be far better educated on what can, and often does, go wrong. Best regards.

Phone number? Not hard to find. From the back of owner's manual.- Kubota Tractor Corporation, Northern Division phone: 614-835-1100

I will admit, with the 4 kubotas ive owned, unless it happens right after a sale, kubota corp is very quick to be defensive and thealer acts like a deer caught in headlights. Kubota reps are far from helpfull to say the least, but in comparison to other big brands im sure its the same. Big m
oney buyers will be the ones to get special treatment whixh is unfortunate for the little guy.

Good news. I called Kubota and they will cover it.

MB Tractor will cover labor (switching tire to new RIM).

And Kubota will pay for parts.

My faith is restored.

He did say the lugs WILL GET LOOSE with a FEL, so check them frequently at least twice a season if I put so few hours.

Kubota was very reasonable and I don't think MB Tractor ever called them, they should call Kubota on YOUR behalf.

Awesome news!!! We all like happy endings. Good for Kubota. It wasn't even their fault, as they ship those machines in crates, sans wheels/tires. They did a great thing. I am delighted for you.

Good deal.

I'd say it really says something about Kubota, since as 'fick points out it wasn't their responsibility at all. The dealer's prep crew screwed the pooch on this one apparently ... so it's nice to see that the dealer is having to pony up for something at least .... IMHO, they ought to be footing the entire ticket.

Personally, I'd torque them puppies to the max recommended setting when they return it "fixed" ....

After almost 1200 hours on my B2910, I've checked torque on the lug nuts 2 or 3 times .... probably not enough .... should be done at least yearly.

By the way they said they do not locktite the studs. Do you think I should?

I'm curious how tight the other wheels will feel when I check them.

I wonder if I should drive it on pavement occasionally too, just to see how smooth things feel.

Nope - just check the tightness periodically (at least annually, maybe 2x per year - in the middle of the season - if you are really hammering it)

I've done alot of really hard work with my B2910 - I mean really hard, to the point where I probably should have had a tractor twice the size. It is "well-used" ....

My wheel lugs were properly torqued from the dealer. Over time, they loosened somewhat .... but not significantly (meaning I was able to tighten them slightly when re-torquing)

I wonder if I should drive it on pavement occasionally too, just to see how smooth things feel.
Couldn't hurt ..... do it in 2WD though, as driving in 4WD on pavement is really hard on tire wear.
