I'm looking at a B7800 with low hours and R4s. I need to mow about 2.5 acres of lawn which I currently do with my BX with turf tires. Anyone have a large B series with R4s that mows? I've read differing opinions, but am concerned the R4s will tear up my lawn. I really wanted turfs but its near impossible finding a used B with them. Would appreciate your opinions!

I mowed my "yard", don't have a lawn, with a B7800 with R/I4s and a 6' Landpride RFM and I didn't think it did any damage.

I mowed a few lawns with my old B8200, which was the same size as the B7800. The R4's worked fine. Leave it in 2wd, don't make really tight turns, and don't mow when the lawn/soil is wet.

RobertN given great advice and try not to brake steer.

It is going to depend on your soil. I actually mowed my son's yard yesterday with an M8540 and Woods 10' rotary cutter; couldn't tell a tractor had even been on it.

I routinely run our L5030 with industrial tires across our yard regularly. We mow with a BX and industrials; our old BX had bar tires.

Agree with RobertN and other above.
I mowed my 6 acres with my B7800 Belly mower and R4 tires and it worked very nice, just do not mow when wet

Can't tell where you live, I think it depends some on your seasons. We get wet springs and falls, which means I can't use R4s a lot of the time when the grass is growing the most. I used to borrow my neighbor's funny looking green tractor that had R4s and I couldn't use it on our lawn because it left impressions in the soil, but it was fine for the pasture. So when I got my kubota I got it with turfs and I can use it any time of year on our lawn as well. I've not found an instance where I wished I had R4s instead of turfs, it even has sufficient traction when I plow snow. I ended up buying a ZTR because of all our trees, it was just too big a hassle trying to get around them with the tractor.

I use R1 AG tires, helps aerate the yard...

RoberN gave some good advice. I have two places twenty miles apart. Where I live, I have a BX2660 and turf tires and at the other place I have a B2320 MMM with FEL and R4's. I enjoy both little tractors, but the turf tired BX cuts much shorter without scarring, while the B2320 can cut nearly as short, you don't want to do so on your lawn, and you certainly don't want to have it in 4wd. I have also noticed that if I remove the FEL from the B2320, it doesn't scar as much, but still much more than the turf tires. I could live with the job R4's do but it would take me longer to mow if I avoided making divots with my front tires; the R4's are great for doing a number of other things I do with the B2320 at my place in the country. Enjoy some Orange!

For the first couple years I had a Cub 154 Loboy with turfs, then a couple years with a Ford 1210 and R1's, then 10 years with a Kubota B7500 and R4's and recently went with an L3200 and R4's.

There's a small creek in the front part of our place that has a habit of flooding and sometimes depositing some silt. No surprise the R1's left the worst tracks if it was mowed without letting it dry out pretty well. What I didn't expect to see was how easy the L3200 was on the soft area - with loaded tires.

Note that I never mow with the FEL & frame on the tractor. There are a couple places I had to use 4WD before switching to the L3200, so it was necessary to remember to take it out of 4WD or not cut a short turn
