Ballast box receiver to tow logs with chain & grapple?

skidskraft,

I used to use my LMC BB with a 2" receiver to skid logs all the time; here are some pics:

There are some downsides to using this method that I think bear discussing:

- Using the Logrite Skidding Tongs made dragging far easier than a chain. Don't have to lift it to get underneath it and the tongs lift the logs better
- Still pretty labor intensive, getting off, hooking up
- Drags the logs though the dirt. Result: wash the logs off or risk your chainsaw chains getting dull faster
- Requires "drive thru" clearance to drop the logs off; if you have the space (like I do), then no biggie

Now, having said all that - and at the risk of derailing the thread - if you plan to move a lot of logs, I highly recommend you think long term into Plan B:

Bought a grapple for my bobcat after the tornado of 2013. Best way to go. Even moving brush being able to just grab piles and go.
