I finally had a chance to attack the trees. I brought in some professional help. These are cottonwoods, my guess is 60 to 70 ft tall. This is my tree guy hanging the pull rope.

Taking the facecut. Ontop of being a large tree in a precarious position, these cottonwoods are really unstable. They tend to be kind of unpredictable at times. Thats the corner of my porch in the left foreground of the picture. Tense morning............

Le Stump, This give you an idea how much I had to back-cut the trees early on to reset the West wall.

The barnshop is now up on permanent piers throughout. Once the trees are down I can dig out the roots inside and prep it for concrete. The floor is a soil/clay mix that is packed and dry. I am thinking 6" of 3/4 minus for the gravel base (compacted) rebar and then 6" of concrete to bring me up to the base beams.

Larry, I'll bet getting those trees down is a big relief /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

When I saw the first one cut , I was thinking Hmmm? chainsaw carve that stump into a nice little chair... But I see, it has to come out for the rest of the project /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Looking better all the time /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Hey Nasty,
When the first one hit the ground I think I actually sighed out loud with relief /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
I started laughing when I read your chair idea as I was thinking Hmmmm? outside work bench, gotta be something I can do with those things....
Thanks, I think I will feel like I made some real progress when slab is done.
