Tesla's progress is still evolving.

With Supercharger V3 outputting 250 kW, Tesla owners can gain 75 miles of range in a mere 5 minutes.

We're looking at a moving target. Not a stable mature situation such as gas mpg.

Tesla is a moving target for old players that is harder to hit because it is moving forward each day. Foresight seems to have been short in the link below.

Saudi Arabia fund dumped nearly all of its Tesla shares in the fourth quarter, filing shows

Petrol and diesel car sales ban brought forward to 2035

A ban on selling new petrol, diesel or hybrid cars in the UK will be brought forward from 2040 to 2035 at the latest, under government plans.

The change comes after experts said 2040 would be too late if the UK wants to achieve its target of emitting virtually zero carbon by 2050.

Boris Johnson unveiled the policy as part of a launch event for a United Nations climate summit in November.

given the cost of electricity, EV vehicles cannot be cost effective if charged by the metered electric mains.. compare the price per KWH per mile vs. liquid fuels, no comparison..

Have you seen the price of fuel in the UK?

Where do you live to be paying $0.30 per kilowatt hour?

How will the petrol and diesel car ban work? - BBC News

Sounds like it is for real.

Yeah I bet they were a bit shocked at TESLA stock price today...

Closed at $887.06 today but peaked at over $961 earlier in the day.

Time to have bought was around last June when it bottomed ~$178

I guess they got their eyes open that EV's are going to hurt the value of their black gold in the coming decades.

Anyone reading the news knows EV's are going to be more and more common. The ban on gas and diesel vehicles in the USA is not until 2040 but a change in DC could change it like it did in the UK.

Yes it would be nice to own some Tesla stock but my few marbles are tied up in my business today.

To my knowledge, there is no law on the books to justify a statement that gas and diesel vehicles will be banned in the USA in 20 years.

IMO...The only bans on ICE vehicles any of us will ever see (here in the US) will be bans on certain places in urban areas, certain roads etc. and most common will be certain lanes of multi-lane highways etc...

I doubt it will be optional long term from what I read. Things got rolled back after last change in the White House so there will be pent-up desires released when we change horses next time I expect.

The Nissan Leaf was sold below cost, so they would sell. To allow Nissan access to the ICE vehicle market in the US .

Not the US market, only CARB states where "clean vehicle credits" are required to offset ICE sales.

Tesla is said to only be in the black by selling these credits to other manufacturers such as Honda and FCA.

The good news is that dirty coal plants are closing, one after another. The handwriting is on the wall. RIP dirty coal .:tombstone:

Bad old dirty coal powering a Tesla is emission equivalent to a 30 MPG gasoline automobile.

And the point is? 30 mpg and better is easily doable without the environmental concerns of a battery which is apparently zero emissions and the delays of charging it.

Buying Tesla stock is tempting. The question is whether it really can grow profitability fast enough to justify today's insane price.

I own a Model S and sold my TSLA last year for $318. Today TSLA hit $968.99. For Tesla to be "worth" double Ford and GM combined is insane. Tesla can not make enough vehicles anytime in the next 10 years and sell at high enough of a price to pay a 1% dividend on that market valuation.

Innovation does not over come the tech limits of Lithium Ion cost, energy density , weight, short range and slow charge rate . EV's are up the slope and past the knee onto the plateau of the technical plain.

Yeah, I heard that when my Dodge 318 produced 150 HP. "Never going to get any better. Everything has already been invented."

News Flash: Tesla isn't working very hard at increasing battery capacity or density as they have enough already. The research is focusing on reducing cost and increasing durability.

My power hog Model S costs less than 3.5¢/mile running off electricity I purchase from the local utility.

Gasoline hit $2.149 the other day. 2.149/0.035 = 61.4 MPG$-equivalent.

Do you own or drive a vehicle which gets 30 MPG or better? If not then where is your moral basis for criticizing those who are doing better than you?

Tesla Model 3 does 50% better than my power hog Model S.

Furthermore only 27% of electricity on the USA power grid came from coal in 2018. Unlike your diesel or gasoline vehicles an EV effortlessly moves from electricity generated by any means. Gasoline and diesel are very precise formulations which engines barely tolerate dilution with ethanol or biodiesel.

If electricity is dirty for an EV, then why is it acceptable to power your computer, TV, and air conditioning?

I didn’t claim electric was dirty. It’s definitely not zero emissions though. Your electric car that’s claimed that is far from it too. Even if the electric was 100 percent solar generated it’s still not zero emissions. An electric car by your claim equal to 30 mpg or a Volkswagen that gets 45 mpg who’s really saving the environment? And no I don’t own a vehicle that gets 30 mpg. That wasn’t the goal when I selected my vehicles. My lightest one still has 8 lugs.
