Brin, you are a nicer guy than I am. I would not have paid him. There was no legal contract or understanding of payment for services rendered.

I know, I know but the Mrs. did not want me to make a big deal out of it ...so I paid him and it burned me up but I have not helped him or loaned him a tool to this day.

Sorry, but I just had to laugh. My wife knows me too well to "suggest" that. Like I said, you are a nicer guy than me and that's probably a good thing.

um.. I don't know what I was thinking when I first read this...

The bad guy-- he is the neighborhood bully, and tries to run everything...
He told my builder that all the property owners voted and I was not to be allowed a right away across their road... So I never tried to reach out.. In the last few months, alot of the neighbors have reached out to me-- 6 of about 15 or so-- NOTE the back side of the mountain has about 20 homes, 15 or so of them share the private road.

of the ones I have spoken to-- NONE knew of ANY vote and all were rather upset.... and many have called him a BAD guy...

Funny thing is his attidude as only cost him... So be it...

HOWEVER in keeping with the good neighbor theme...

Today a neighbor had a miniex contracted to build a driveway for a new home/cabin they want to build. The have to remove about 50 yards of dirt to get the driveway in... They said I good get 10 yards of so... He thinks he has a place for most of it, and I could have whatever else...
Now it is only 20 feet from the foot of my Driveway, and he would even dump it on a spot on the side of my drive... Cool huh?
It is DARK and rich top soil from years of leaves decaying and all nice and enriched... or so it looks!

J

That is very cool, of the other people around you, i need probably about 50 yards of dirt to smooth out a washout and fill a hole, its going to be very expensive even getting just fill clay. Every neibhorhood has a jerk, i am always trying not to be him but sometimes I am worried that I am that I come accross that way. I had my property surveyed so I could build a rifle range and not be shooting across someone elses land. It ended up cutting through one of my neihbor's ATV trails he uses so I talked to him and told him what I was doing and that I would hang a yellow chain accross the trail with the range was in use so that he wouldn't wander into live fire. I think he is alright with it, but I haven't seen him on the trail since. I don't want to be a jerk but at the same time, I don't want to shoot somebody by accident.

Hmm...that would probably not fall in the "good neighbor" category. Rifle ranges make LOTS of noise and disturbance for miles.

It would be akin to building a dirt bike track with the accompanying noise, dirt, and disturbance.

Folks in the country live there for peace and quiet so it is not unusual for your neighbor to suddenly lose contact with you.

Country folks are more into firearms, so I doubt there'd be a problem as long as TGF uses some good sense about when he shoots (not too early...not during Church services...things like that). And, of course, being very aware of where his rounds go.

Folks new to the country way of living (transplanted city dwellers) may be disturbed initially, but shooting is part of country living. They'll get used to it...and maybe get into shooting themselves.

BTW, even high powered rounds don't make "LOTS of noise and disturbance for miles". The crack of a rifle isn't bad past a couple hundred yards...less if there's foliage.

Two of the most common noises around me are chainsaws and rifles/pistols. It goes with the territory. One point I would make, a good bit of the shooting noise is made by folks who live in populated areas where they can't shoot. So, they come to a camp or second home here in the rural area to do their shooting - usually on a weekend.

I do resent hearing the shooting somewhat if it goes on for a couple hours in the morning and then a couple in the afternoon. It's mostly large caliber stuff and makes plenty of noise even from a distance.

I agree with gwdixon that many country people live in the country because they crave peace and quiet. When I shoot, it is always for a short period of time when I think it will not be disturbing to those around me. Moderation in all things I guess.
Dave.
