Belly Mower

I have a JD 950 and I have the oppertunity to pickup a 6' belly mower with the gear box on the pto I would like to hear the pro's and con's about this setup . I"m not sure if a flail mower is better or a brush hog I will only be cutting grass I really appreciate the different veiws that are here

If you are going to use the tractor to just mow with it will be fine . But if you are going to use for other things I would get a 3 PT finish mower.

I have that same mower on my JD 850.
Pro's- Reliable mower, mows nice.
Cons-You need to remove the 3 point hitch arms and it is difficult and time consuming to remove/install the mower and gearbox if you want use the tractor for anything else.

I use my 850 for mowing only. So other than maintainance my mower never comes off.

One other thing to watch out for. My turf tires come very close to the mower deck. Larger diameter tires may rub the mower deck

If you decide to go with the mid-mount mower, let us know. We have a used 72" MM-Mower in pretty good condition we took on a trade-in from a JD-1070.

Well I didn't know that I have to remove the 3 pt arms I thought I could still use the box scraper I have a belly mower for the 950 but I don't have a gear box for the pto I don't think I will invest in the gear box because I have a brush hog but it's out of balance thanks for the help
