I'd rather not get into it at all but sometimes you have to. My wallet couldn't get much flatter than it already is.
I would not be surprised if a synthetic oil company (or any of them, for that matter) would stand behind their product if it was shown to be the cause of a problem. My point was that a person's beef is with the aftermarket supplier at that point, not the OEM. And you could very well be successful in filing a claim.
That's why it makes no sense to me to use extended drain intervals during a warranty period. After that, it's up to you because any repairs from that point on are on you anyway.
I do have to agree with Sully, as I too believe the advantages of synthetic oil have been way oversold. OTOH, if I bought a piece of equipment that spec'd synthetic oil, such as a VW TDI, you better believe I'd use it. But not every piece of equipment needs it or benefits from its use.
