Best way to remove that extra oozing grease?

I had some mild degreaser around for cleaning cars, tried it not long ago on excess FEL grease that smeared (pine sap too) took them right off. It's just fine for painted surfaces too.

One afternoon my OCD kicked in and I decided to clean up the joints on my FEL. So I took all them apart and cleaned them up with rags and solvent. It only too a little over an hour to do it all. Looked a lot better.

I leave it on because the excess grease is like an additional seal, keeping water and dust out of the joint.

That's my new answer beside "it's a tractor" like others have said.

And it's like second nature when I'm around my tractor being careful where I lean and grab so not to break that "crusty grease water seal".

I figure the extra grease no my tractor is like the dirt on my trucks. It protects the paint.

I haven't tried it yet, but WD-40 is good for removing grease on other items, should be no different here. Stuff is not a lasting lubricant (awful in my opinion), but serves well for grease removal and a half way decent rust preventative.

"Awful" is an interesting comment about WD-40.
I completely agree, but many think it is great.
Different strokes for different folks.

AND, never wear new or clean clothes while anywhere near your tractor!
Ask me how I know!

And tell friends who ask that it is to prevent rust.

I wholly endorse this statement.

My friend who bought my last tractor to this day still kids me that every grease joint had a little extra. Of course he is the same type of owner who regularly waxes the machine so I took his comments with a grain of salt.
I must be really getting old because now every time I get on the tractor I'm looking at that extra grease, especially on the fel. So I got some paper towels and tried to remove the excess. I succeeded in making a small mess by spreading around. Ended up using turpentine on the towels to get it off.
Is there a clean way to do this? Something more effective that turpentine?
I've always greased until I see it coming out some. . .

Gease until you see it flowing from the joints. Skip the turpentine and use either old rags or paper towels to wipe down. I wouldn't recommend using solvents at grease points.

I don't own a can of WD40. I have yet to find anything that it is useful for. Anything that WD40 can be used for, there are dozens of other products that are far better than it is. One thing I can most certainly tell you, it is not a lubricant. I learned that the extreme hard way many years ago. That's the last can I owned.

I agree! Every so often with the first pump on the grease gun a tiny drop of water comes out.

Take the tractor to a car wash and wash all of the grease off. When you are done grease each grease zerk to push the water out and start all over again.
