3 guys and a maybe out of 1? Don't know how well I would sleep on that.

We used these guys for over 25 years now. Mostly when I was pulling wrenches. You could probably ship it to them easier than driving 60 miles to another town.

Thanks for the link. If it comes to shipping a pump out to have it re-built, I'll need a few suggestions.

Anyone ever had a pump re-built? How much would a little pump like this cost to have re-built?

Can't recall any axact costs...I wasn't paying the bill. But a 2 cylinder is cheaper than a 6! :D

All depends on what's inside. Could just be the check valve at the top ov the pump where the fuel line connects. Could be the whole plumger and barrel. More than $100, less that $300??

I like your estimate better than the first one I got. I called a local truck parts yard that does a lot of repair work and the guy there said that the cheapest one he ever heard of was $500. Of course he's used to working with these 7+ liter truck tractor engines.

I can handle a few hundred bucks if it gets the tractor running great.

RoosaMaster pumps for old fords are rebuilt for $500-700. The seal kit and common soft parts are under $50.

How tough are they to re-build? Do you need specialized tools?

I know that the manual for my Bolens says to not attempt to service the pump because it requires highly technical skills and special equipment.

Well, some pumps are easy to do wrong. Wrong may be a run away engine that can't be shut off. Don't know about your pump. If you can get instructions, diagrams etc, it should be do able. After all, most of the service guys are not rocket scientists. BUT, they have been shown how to do it and they have the special tools that makes it much easier.

I am going to do the roosamaster, but a neighbor used to rebuild them when he was a heavy equipment tech - so there is a safety net! And I know how to stop a runaway diesel engine.

Okay, so please share. How do you stop a runaway diesel engine?

cut off the air. stuff a rag in the intake.

The old 2 cycle Gm's actually had a flap valve on the blower that could be triggered with a pull cable.

diesels like all engines need air and fuel to run--if you cannot control the fuel, then cut the air.
