Bridge repair

Thanks for the update!!!

You really started out with a diamond in the rough with an amazing transformation!!!! The riprap and rock on the road make a huge difference, almost as impressive as what you accomplished by taking out those logs from your pond.

It's just beautiful.

Thank you for the kind words Eddie! You are right in that my wife and I put a lot of physical and mental labor into this project and it seems it takes manual labor rather than machinery to do things right. Not that machinery doesn't have its purpose because it very much does. Now I have the issue of every time the water runs off under the bridge it washes with it from the pond the limbs and tree trunks what we cut so the clean-up continues but it's bound to end soon wouldn't you say? It a labor of love and we are laboring

Need to crank my Yanmar today haven't started it in a month or so...Hope she cranks right up, as she always does and I'll put her to work removing tree trunks for more pond clean up.

Take good care Eddie!!

Thanks, I haven't built one because I don't have a need, and have not yet had someone to hire me to build one.

Has the county OK'd the new bridge?
Up here we would have gone to a small local mill (dozens to choose from) and had some 3X10 hemlock timbers cut for cross pieces, then a second layer of 2X10s run lengthwise accross the bridge for the tires to ride on.This spreads the loading out between more of the cross pieces. Locally we figure 3" pine won't last more than a few years as it stays wet all winter and PT wood is over twice the price of rough cut hemlock which should last 20yrs with NO treatment.

pat32rf, there was no need for the county to ok the bridge, it's solid as it can be!

I also went to the local mil for the timber I used, yes it is pine, hemlock's hard to come by here, but I've been treating the pine with my home brew of 1 gall of used motor oil added to 5 galls of diesel (mix was recommended to me by the mil owner).

Yesterday was a wonderful day in North Alabama. We had a snow fall and this was the first time I've seen snow on my property (have owned it for close to 4 years). Below is a pic of the snow covered bridge. I know this is nothing to those of you that live up north but to us it was a very refreshing change, wish it had lasted a bit longer.
