Hope to avoid the problems mentioned in this thread. The RS1200 is way too flimsy to try tilling now. "

Interesting you say that. My RS1400 seems indestructable. I worry about tearing the tractor up before dammagine the tiller..

Re:"tearing up the tractor". That's why I'm adding a slip clutch (not included on the PTO shaft that came with the RS1200) before going tillin'.

Did it not at least come with a shear pin??

I cant find one.... I'm just real carefull untill I fit it with a clutch.

Funny, a local shop told me that no type of protection is needed on a tiller being it will just hope over objects it hits. After reading everything here I did take her word for it so I have not used my tiller. I need to shell out the money for a new drive shaft with a shear pin or clutch..

Well, I have noticed that when a lower gear, if my tiller hits something hard, it will push the tractor, skidding the tires.... Not a good feeling, especially on a hill...... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

How does the driveshaft attach to the gearbox or input shaft on the tiller.. that's where I'd look for a smooth shaft / yoke coupling and a bolt ( shear bolt)..

I don't think one could be careful enough? Unless your in territory that has been tilled a bunch of times you just don't know what your going to hit. Like Soundguy said, look right at where the PTO shaft hooks to the tiller. It has to be secured somehow and more than likely you have a shear pin real close there. I just can't believe any manufacture would be in their right mind to not at least put a shear pin in?

Interesting. I have a 72" KK tiller, it's gear drive. I've hit T posts and tons of stones and have never broken a tine. I've had the slip clutch adjusted too tight and have stalled the tiller and the tractor. I did some cemetery rehab work and tilled up a few stones that were sunk out of sight. At least 1 was broken by the tiller.

I've easily tilled 50 - 100 acres in the past 7 years with this machine, the sheet metal is dented all to heck, but the thing just keeps running, no issues what so ever.
