Please advise; I have been speaking with a Kubota dealer about purchasing a new BX24LB-R, we agreed on a price of $17,450.00, I asked him to send me something in writing and I get it and it has an item that reads: Total Additional Charges $674.68. I am really dismayed by this, I hope I am wrong but to me he should have mentioned this to me. Six dollars, or maybe even sixty I could see he overlooked, but six hundred! Any how the total with a 60" belly mower and everything including $550. for insurance comes to $18,124.68 Does this seem like a good price? Are these "Total Additional Charges" legitimate, or just a way for him to make more money? Anyway, he said it won't come in until mid April, so I can still back out, and buy it somewhere else. What do you guys think? Thanks in advance for your time and advice. VedderAdder.

I didn't get the mower so I have no idea how much that ads to the cost. I bought mine for 16500. That included, loaded rear tires, hooks on both buckets, a block heater, delivery and first service at my house. I did add the Kubota insurance since I financed with them and the only other charge was paper work for Kubota that was something in the $50 range....anyway your 674.68 seems a little exceesive for paper work or even prep-fees. An in my opinion there shouldn't be any prep fees that should be in the initial cost. Also I wonder if he is charging you for freight from Kubota to the dealer...Car dealers love to stick that in there....
I would get a detailed breakdown of the charges and either get them to take them off or go to another dealer.
I aways ask the "out the door price" and get it in writing,...

Good luck!

Thanks Offcamber! I have further questions for you. What are "loaded" rear tires? What are "hooks" on both buckets? Why are there "two" buckets? Is a block heater normally included? What do you mean by "first service"? I must apologize for my ignorance, but I am really unfamiliar with tractors, and am just beginning to learn. I have been reading a lot of the posts, but I really don't get much of the nomenclature that is used. Thanks again for your valued advice. VedderAdder.

Loaded tires mean they fill the rear tires with a liquid for weight. Traditionaly they used calcium chloride mixed in water now they use an organic compound that is enviromentally friendly. Loading tires on the BX24 is a good idea since its light as it is for BH and FEL work.
The hooks are just that hooks welded the front end loader bucket and the back hoe bucket to use with chains for pulling dragging securing a loads etc etc....just handy to have not a requirement. The block heater is an option and is not a bad idea if you live in the snowbelt. However my BX24 starts in very cold weather with out using it.
First service is just that...the first scheduled service of the tractor. Oil and filter change etc.
My dealer offered all these things as part of the price without me asking....most dealers I have found won't do all these things automatically....you will mostly likely pay extra.

I had an other dealer that was less than 16500 but offered no other service included in their price other than delivery. Since the dealer I went with had a very good rep felt they were the better deal and they haven't dissapointed me.

You don't when the backhoe is on. I found that it balanced the tractor very well for loader work, and the steering was much better in snow with the backhoe off, and the rear tires loaded.

NEED? no you don;t need it it however the more weight you can get on the tractor will help with BH work IMO..The BX24 is light to begin with. The BH yanks and bounces the machine around as it is so more weight will help with the stability. Also as Chuck said it defiantly helps when you take the BH off and want to use the FEL....

Vedder,

Where are you located? Even in NY with 8.375% tax that seems high. Not including tax and delivery a BX24 should go from $15000-16500. The 60" mower is $1500-1800. So a fantastic deal would be $16500 + tax. Your number seems kinda high, and that extra $674 is suspicious. Prices are regional so depending where you are that could be a so-so deal or a bad deal. Let us know where your looking and we'll steer you to someone good.

BTW love my BX24

Asylum, I am located in Illinois, but I am working with an Indiana dealer. I am not too far from Indiana (30 minutes). I got in touch with this guy through a person I know. The big attraction to working with him, is there would be no state sales tax since he is delivering to another state. So the price is not supposed to include tax. The sheet he faxed me shows: BX24LB-R $15,950.00, RCK60B23BX $1,500.00, making a sub-total of $17,450.00, then it shows insurance $549.68, which he says I can get or just use my homeowners, which is what I will do since my agent is re-doing my policy to include it. The invoice also shows $105. 00 which he said was a finance charge that Kubota has, which I agreed to. But then it has "Total Additional Charges $674.68. Which he never mentioned to me. Unless that is an error, to me it means he is now untrustworthy in my book. If it is not an error he should have told me about it. Not to tell me is unethical, and if true, I won't be able to trust him after that. Which means the deal is dead. I've already been approved by Kubota so I guess I can buy it at any Kubota dealer. I would appreciate some buying advice. Thanks for the offer. It sure is frustrating to deal with people who are not honest. Did he not think I would notice $600? He probably thought I am some dumb city guy. Well I guess I might be, but not that dumb! VedderAdder.

Hmmm... $549.68 for insurance plus $105.00 for fees is $654.68. I assume that those are the extra charges, although I can't account for the missing $20.00. That plus the individual prices for the BX24 and the mower deck come out to $18,124.68, which is what you said in your first post. The "Total Additional Charges" are just that; the total of the additional charges already listed (insurance and fees).

The price may be high, but there isn't any funny business with the math! He's being completely honest and forthright in my book.

Anyone else care to do the math?

Geez, I am a Dumb@$$. You're right. There is another thing off to the side that reads $20.00 Official Fees. So that six hundred dollar charge is just a subtotal of the other fees. Wow, I feel bad. I assumed he was being dishonest, but he is not. I should have just added it up. I sure am glad you guys don't know what I do for a living. Let's just say most of my day is spent doing math! I just didn't take the time to add it up and jumped to conclusions. This time it was you guys who figured out I screwed up, and not my wife. In any event, am I getting a good deal if I spend $17,575.00 for a new BX24 with FEL, and BH, and Kubota 60" belly mower? That seems to be the best price I can find nearby right now. So should I keep shopping or buy it? As always I really appreciate everyone who has replied to me. I cannot believe how helpful all of you have been. Vedder.

"Build My Kubota" quotes $18,438 for that tractor with 60" mower and turf tires, $18,474 for R4 tires. That's MSRP, so you should be paying less than that (which you are).

I can't help you much beyond that.

Yes once you break it down is sounds like a good deal glad you got it all worked out.
Dealer will make or break a deal.....a great price may come back to haunt you if the dealer doesn't support the product....so take that into account when you choose the dealer. In my book service after the sale is just as if not more important than before.

Good Luck....you'll love the BX!

Vedder,
Not a bad deal, you might be able to do better. Homeowners insurance is fine, but don't take it off property. You can't be a good neighbor that way. The only additional fee I paid was a filing fee for financing. Try to get him down to $17000 for TLB and Mower. You don't want some of the haters on the board to chime in and make you feel bad.

BTW, you gotta send pix when you get it and some more info, like expected projects, property description.

Have him at least weld a hook on the front bucket and load the tires. They'll usually throw those in but can be expensive if done later.

Currently at Sacramento For Tractors: BX24 $15800, MMM $1800. Don't know about tires, insurance, etc.

What is this insurance anyway? I paid in full at purchase. Is this something you pay if you finance in case you damage it and can't pay it off?

Exactly...if you finance with Kubota they require the tractor to be insured. Most homeowners polices will cover most of what Kubota requires but not all. I found it was a better deal to get the Kubota insurance than it was to get a rider added to my homeowners. It only had a $250 deductable and covered just about anything, even if I slam the FEL into a tree and rip off the tractor its $250 to have it replaced....(this actually happend to a someone with a I think a B26). I think the rate for the BX24 was $150 a year...

BX24 with 54" mmm, filled turf tires. 2 years ago, paid $16,200 plus some $54 doc fee:confused: ( I hate those things). Add in North Carolina's $1,200 or so... :( ( I hate that even more!) Keep in mind this was 2 years ago. I have no idea as to current pricing. I was pleased with my deal.

I did not buy the Kubota insurance. My State Farm agent assured me I was covered by my Homeowner's policy even helping out a neighbor as long as I was not doing commercial work. Tractor loss or damage is covered as is liability. Damage while trailering is covered by some combination of Auto ins and Homeowner's ins. I did not delve into the details of the insurance. (I just wanted to know what time it was, not how to build a clock:) ) I just asked to make sure. I suggest you consult with your agent as well! Standard deductibles apply. No additional rider was necessary.
